What little boy (or big boy for that matter) doesn’t love a train set. Actually I should say little girl too because my daughter loved to play with trains as well.
We used to have a train table. I picked it up for my son when he was 2 years old. It took up about 1/4th of the bedroom but that was OK. It was well worth it. He would play with that table for HOURS at a time. He used to love to roll his trains up and down the tracks.
For his birthday and Christmas we would buy him more pieces for his train table from tracks to train cars and all those fun accessories that made sounds and lit up. If you add up everything over the years I’m sure we spent a small fortune.
As my children got older (and bigger) there was less and less room in the bedroom for the train table. Eventually we had to get rid of it. My son was not happy about it but he knew we really didn’t have a choice. We did compromise. He could keep many of the track pieces and his most favorite pieces but the rest we’d giveaway.
I’m happy to say that a local library took the table and THREE huge Rubbermaids full of pieces and accessories, for the children’s section of the library. Technically my son could go and visit it at any time if he wanted to. I think it made him feel good to know that MANY children can enjoy all those train pieces just as much as he did.
My son still have train pieces all over the place. He doesn’t like to admit to it, but he does. My son prefers to play with toys. I think it has something to do with the Aspergers that he has. He’s a lot less immature then boys his age. He’s also a loner and prefers to play quietly by himself rather then engage with other children.
Several weeks ago I received the Thomas Wooden Railway Early Engineers Roundabout Station. The set included a Thomas the Train Engine, two destinations, track and molded track layout with wooden tracktiles and two accessories. The BEST part is that this set is 100% compatible with other Thomas pieces AND similar wooden track pieces.
The first thing I noticed about the set is that not only is it easy to set up (just snap it on to other tracks), but the accessories come off easily so you can re-arrange the roundabout to suit your needs. If you don’t want to use the gate you can simple take it off and use the gate somewhere else along the tracks. the same applies to the sign and the piece with the red “flags” (?) that go round and round.
The pieces are large enough for little hands and not complicated at all. They fit on the track similar to a puzzle (the bigger pieces go in the bigger holes, the smaller pieces in the smaller holes).
I never thought to take pictures of the set when we first got it. My son tore into the box and took the pieces in the room. When I asked him to set up the track so I could take a picture it was like I asked him to pull out his own teeth.
I looked for more pieces to set up the track in the toy box and in the boxes under his bed. Eww… let’s just say its a dark and scary place under his bed. We do clean under there but judging by what I saw its been a while. I think I found Jimmy Hoffa under there. Ha Ha.
I did find some pieces but not enough to make a whole track. Sorry about that.
Check out how adorable this set is!
