I am grateful that I don’t have any specific allergies. Certain things trigger my Eczema to act up, but it’s not that big of a deal. I am also very grateful that my kids don’t have any serious allergies. They are allergic to tree pollen, which makes them a bit miserable during the Spring. But it’s nothing that a little Zyrtec can’t take care of.
I feel really bad for children who have severe food allergies, or any adult too for that matter. I couldn’t imagine being allergic to things like Gluten, milk, peanuts, tree nuts or eggs. Most especially milk and eggs because so many things are made with those ingredients.
I suppose you won’t “miss” what you never had to begin with. What I mean is, a child won’t miss peanut butter and jelly sandwiches if they have never had one before. At the same time it’s sad when a child can’t experience such a classic as PB&J.
When my kids used to have school parties I would always volunteer to bring something in. I always opted for the drinks or paper products because I didn’t want to be responsible for bringing in something that would be harmful to another child with allergies. The few times I’ve had to bring in food items I would read the labels very carefully to make sure nothing I brought in had anything that might be potentially harmful. Most products SHOULD tell you if they were made in factories where milk, egg or nuts are used, even if the product it’s self does not contain those ingredients.
I am not overly familiar with Gluten, but I do know that some people have really adverse reactions to it.
I can’t imagine having any or all of those allergies and missing out on things that the rest of us take for granted like ice cream, PB&J sandwiches and cookies.
One company has found a way to produce yummy treats that are perfectly safe for people with allergies. They are called Lucy’s Allergen Free Cookies. Dr. Lucy’s cookies are…
– Gluten Free
– Vegan
– Contain No Peanuts and No Tree Nuts
– They are made in a dedicated bakery
– All ingredients are tested
– Contain ZERO Trans Fat
– Have ZERO Cholesterol
– Are Non-GMO
– Are made with all natural ingredients
My husband always jokes around about food products that are “free” of this and that, plus low in fat, calories, cholesterol and things along those lines. He always says they are “flavor free” too. Ha Ha.
It’s easy to ASSUME that cookies such as Lucy’s wouldn’t exactly taste great. But guess what – they do!
We don’t have any food allergies so I am not sure what these types of foods normally taste like, but you can’t tell the difference between these and other cookies on the market. My kids didn’t notice a difference at all with these cookies. I would think a cookie made without dairy would taste funny, and that the taste would be noticeable. That was not the case at all. They tasted like regular cookies, which is a great thing.
We were sent a few boxes of cookies to try out and review; Maple Bliss, Chocolate and Ginger Snap.
My favorite flavor that I tried was the Maple Bliss. I thought chocolate would have been my favorite. I was surprised that I liked the Maple Bliss more than the chocolate. I actually liked the Ginger Snap better than the chocolate too. Don’t get me wrong, the chocolate was delish too. I think it’s because the Maple Bliss is a unique flavor. It’s not every day you have maple kissed cookies. I also LOVE Gingerbread, especially during the holidays. The Ginger Snap were a perfect holiday treat, especially with a cup of tea or coffee. These cookies went perfectly with a hot cup of tea or coffee.
I’m surprised that cookies made without dairy and eggs could taste so good. I always assumed you needed those two key ingredients in just about anything you baked, especially eggs.
As far as taste is concerned these cookies are yummy. My kids gobbled them up, and my kids are picky eaters. The ONLY difference I noticed between these cookies and other cookies is that these were a bit harder in texture, but only when you bit into them (like the outside was hard). That is NOT a bad thing, it is the only thing that seemed to stand out compared to other cookies on the market. These cookies were crispier.
A box of Lucy’s cookies sell for around $4-$5 which is not bad at all. Thankfully they are available at many retail locations across the country including Whole Foods Market, Stop & Shop, Fairway, Kroger, Harris Teeter, Win Dixie and Costco, to name a few. A store locator can be found here, www.DrLucys.com/Shop. You can also purchase them online.
