Enchanted Thyme is the story of two young children name Peter and Belinda, who are brother and sister. They love books. One day a book they have never seen before magically appears. That night three mice from the Kingdom of Enchanted Thyme come out of the magical book. Their names are Basil, Rosemary and Marjoram (also herbs!). They are known as Kitchen Mice. They take the children off to a magical place known as Kingdom of Enchanted Thyme because they are children of a celebrity chef so the Kitchen Mice are hopeful that the children are able to help them.
The Kingdom is under the spell of Fricassee Fairy. The spell has caused their Queen, called Queen Topstead, to be eternally hungry. No matter what the people of the Kingdom try and feed the Queen she is always hungry.
They enlist the help of Peter and Belinda to find the special secret ingredient that will finally help the Queen to feel full again. Do they succeed? I can’t tell you! You’ll just have to pick up a copy of the book to find out for yourself.
Both of my children read this book. Well my son hasn’t finished it yet, but my daughter did and she loved it so much she was asking me BEFORE she even finished it if there was a sequel to the book. She loved it so much she finished it in two days. My kids are 11 and 9 and this book is the perfect reading level for them. You could easily read it to younger children too.
One of the best features in this book are the recipes. They really got my daughter excited and she “dog eared” several of them because she wants to try and make them herself.
Each chapter ends with an actual recipe. So not only do you have a captivating story to read but you also have delicious recipes to try too. I have read the book and the recipes and I can see why my daughter enjoyed the book so much. And the recipes are oh so good! Some of the FUN recipes you’ll find in this deliciously wonderful book include…
– Creepy’s Swamp Stew
– The Magic Mushrooms Las Vegas Lunch
– Orgoglio’s Giant Croutons
– The Forbidden Forest’s Black Raven Bog with Vanilla Fog (this is one the one my daughter wants to try first).
You can tell how interesting this book is just by the recipe titles. They are HEALTHY recipes too! The titles might be “interesting” as far as adults are concerned but they are titled in such a way as to make them more appealing to children. They were created by a chef too.
This book is A LOT of fun and my family cannot wait for the next book in the series to become available.
