I have always been a very creative person. Growing up all I needed was some recyclables and scrap pieces of fabric and I would create fashions, accessories and furniture for my Barbie dolls.
Art was always my best class in school. I loved to draw (doodle), paint, do ceramics, sew and more. As I got older, photography became my hobby of choice. I’m horrible at taking indoor photos (especially product photos, sadly), but I think I do a fantastic job taking nature, animal and inset shots.
I work with children (K-4th currently). Being the site director I am in charge of the arts and crafts, as well as activities, the children do while in my care. You have to be a bit creative when working with children.
Sadly, I have noticed a lot of the children (especially the older ones) are more interested in getting home to their video games and hopping on their smartphones and tablets. Thankfully we’re a “technology free” program. We do not allow phones, tablets or computers. Our program focuses on outdoor play, arts and crafts, and engaging with other children person-to-person.
It’s not easy to get children to unplug. I hear the whining EVERY DAY from the kids at work about how they need to get on their phones to text their friend or post a new video on TikTok. It saddens me that they would rather do that then run around outside and play, or complete a craft project.

Children need to unplug, as do teens and adults. I’m pretty sure we’ll all survive and hour or two not connected to some form of technology. I grew up in a time without smartphones and computers and I turned out just fine.
There is a new brand that was created by the team that brought you Burt’s Bees (I love their lip balms), that are looking to lead the way in the next evolution of wellness by offering high quality, earth conscious products so Kids, Teens and Adults. Elseware Unplug wants everyone to UNPLUG from time to time and enjoy some relaxing and creative time.
Elseware Unplug is a proud member of the Museum Store Association which supports unique, curated products that are sold in museum shops.
Elsewhere Unplug offers products such as the following.
- Scented Therapy Dough (I must buy these!)
- Drawing & Coloring Tools (chalk, colored pencils, pastel sticks…)
- Painting Tools (finger paints, watercolor pencils, paint sets)
- Kits
- Holiday Products
Elseware Unplug was kind enough to send me their Watercolors to Go Kit.
Watercolors to Go Kit helps people disconnect and unwind in the comfort of their our home or on the go with this kit.
This fun kit comes with the following products.
- Twelve (12) watercolor paints in a metal case
- Collapsible paintbrush
- Watercolor Pad
- Water Vial
Everything fits perfectly in a silicon bag. This entire kit easily transports in your purse, tote, backpack, lunchbox, suitcase, or even tuck it inside your car’s glove compartment for unexpected trips.
The paints come wrapped in paper for protection. You have to remove the paper before using. It took the paper off some of them (see photo) so you can see what I am referring to. I do appreciate that they wanted to protect the paints, but it’s not easy to get the paper off of them. I needed to use a tweezer to help me get the paper off.
I love the quality of the watercolor paper. It’s the best watercolor paper I have ever seen. Look at the photo (above). You can clearly see the texture of the paper which helps with the watercolor paints.
A kit like this would be perfect for a child or teen to take with them on their summer vacation adventures. Adults too! I plan on using mine when we go to the beach later on this year (summer) as well as the local parks. I’m far from an artist, but I am looking forward to giving it my best shot. I really want to be able to paint landscapes. It sounds like fun and relaxing at the same time.
I follow a social media creator name Andrea Nelson. She makes painting with watercolors look so easy. I plan on following along with some of her project ideas to see if I can make beautiful art just like her.
You can check out her YouTube channel here – Andrea Nelson Art (I’m not affiliated with her, I just love her artwork).
This kit would make a great gift too. Pick up a few sets so that you always have something handy for a last minute party invitation.
I love that Elsewhere Unplug products encourage people to put their their phones and tablets and either pick up a new hobby (or two), or return to a hobby they might have enjoyed prior to the introduction of today’s technologies.
