I love coffee. I believe I love it a bit too much. I usually have 2-3 cups each and every day. I can even drink coffee late at night and still fall asleep.
I find coffee to be very relaxing, just like someone would have a cup of tea to relax and unwind (I drink tea too). Sadly, the caffeine from coffee does nothing for me. It does not give me energy or keep me awake (I guess I built up a resistance to it).
There is delicious coffee… and there is gross, diner-quality coffee. I have tried so many different kinds over the course of my coffee-drinking life (I started drinking coffee in college, so at good 30+ years). I have never tried a coffee alternative, that is, until now.
I was sent to review FigBrew.
Here is some additional information.
Finally, a coffee alternative that is actually healthy. It is organic, naturally vegan, gluten-free, and loaded with vitamins, magnesium, potassium, iron and copper. Made from the best-tasting figs in the world, FigBrew products deliver a delicious and healthy alternative to coffee without compromising taste. The Figge is made with only one ingredient with no sugar, preservatives, or taste enhancers added! Mellow Mix only has two ingredients – Honduran coffee beans and roasted Mediterranean figs. Besides caring about our health, they care about the environment too! Figbrew chooses fully recyclable packaging and is committed to donating a portion of its profits to support environmentally conscious non-profit organizations.
I received some Figbrew to try out for myself. Thankfully they have K-cup options, since I have an e-Brewer (similar to a Keurig). I received the Figree and Mellow Mix K-cups.
Roasted Fig K-Cup
A new way to enjoy your Figgee! Made from recyclable materials, your morning health drink just got easier. Made from 100% roasted figs and Brimming with anti-oxidants.
Half-Caff K-Cup
Your morning routine just got easier! Enjoy your favorite half-caff in our recyclable, environmentally friendly k-cups. MM is coffee with a healthy add-on of our roasted figs. Mellow, healthy, and delicious!
I was concerned that these drinks would taste exactly like figs. Don’t get me wrong, I like the taste of figs (one of my favorite cookies are Fig Newtons). Being a coffee “addict,” I was also concerned that I just couldn’t accept taste of these (compared to my beloved coffee).
Much to my surprise, these drinks are actually delicious.
The drink does resemble coffee. It has a creamy, smooth “texture” to it (if that makes any sense?).
I add some French vanilla creamer to them, because that is what I like to add to coffee.
Of the two, I do like the Half-Caff blend of the two. I guess it’s because it tastes more like the coffee I drink every morning.
I have been drinking these with just a little bit of a vanilla creamer added in (only because I like the taste of vanilla in my coffee).
These brews are milder and not as acidic as traditional coffee. If I drink coffee on an empty stomach (especially first thing in the morning), traditional coffee gives me bad cramps and forces me to rush to the bathroom (I know, too much TMI). Its because the acid in the coffee burns my stomach. That’s why I’ll either eat breakfast right after having my coffee, or I’ll take a piece or two of cheese, just so there is something in my stomach to counter-act the acid from the coffee.
I did not have this issue with these brews. I drank them on an empty stomach many times and I never had any issues with that burning sensation.
I noticed that the K-cups don’t feel as full as other K-cups. These feel a bit lighter, almost like they are emptier.
I like that these brews have health benefits. I read stories about how coffee is good for you, bad for you, and everything in between. These brews are made out of figs. If you Google health benefits of figs, you’ll find that they are good for you. They contain antioxidants, and they may aid with bone and digestive health. I read they can even help lower blood pressure. Of course, PLEASE rely more so on what your doctor says, compared to stuff you find on the internet.
FigBrew is different. I think it’s a bit of an acquired taste. I know that the first couple of times I tried this beverage I wasn’t overly keen about them, but the more I drank them, the more I liked them.
My kids are coffee drinkers too (they are both in their early 20’s). My daughter didn’t like the FigBrews at all, where as my son liked them. That goes back to what I said about them being an acquired taste.
