I love to decorate for the holidays. I really, really, REALLY love to decorate. Even though we live in a shoe box sized condo, we have 55+ Rubbermaid storage containers (and similar containers) just with Christmas decorations. I’m not exaggerating when I say our storage unit is 90% holiday and seasonal decor. In fact we’ve “spilled over” into our neighbor’s basement storage until too as well as my father’s basement.
I even have a life size coffin (pinch-toe style) and skeleton that was given to me by an organization when they didn’t want it for their annual Halloween party anymore.
I like to rotate my decorations so that it’s not the same thing year after year. I also like to buy new decorations each year too. My husband jokes that for everyone one decoration I buy I need to get rid of two. LOL!
We have a tiny condo too – imagine if I had a house with a yard. I would need a second job just to keep up with my holiday/seasonal decoration.
One of my favorite places to shop is Oriental Trading.
I know a lot of people think that Oriental Trading sells crafts and trinkets in bulk for a nominal cost. While that is true, Oriental Trading offers consumers so much more.
I used to shop at Oriental Trading when I was the classroom mom when my kids were little. I would buy them crafts, treats and cute little prizes/gifts.
Oriental Trading is now one of my favorite places to shop for holiday and seasonal decor. Not only do they have super cool decorations and supplies, but they also have the best places around.
I recently acquired some new decorations from Oriental Trading which I already have hanging up around my home.
I’ve included the links to the products on the Oriental Trading website as well as the product number in case anything you see interests you.
Zombie Gnome – IN-93/835
I have an unusual collection of Zombie gnomes. No kidding! I really do. It started with one. Then I found others. Now I have six Zombie gnomes and one dinosaur-like creature eating little gnomes. What can I say… I’m weird. LOL!
I was so excited to see that Oriental Trading has not one, but a few Zombie gnomes. Needless to say I know where I’m going shopping when I want to add to my collection. They have a girl Zombie gnome and two smaller “half” gnomes (two heads and a hand).
This is not only a fun Halloween decoration (imagine greeting your guests with a Zombie gnome at your front door), but it can be enjoyed year round by quirky people like me.
He’s made with great attention paid to details, right down to his little friend – a zombie frog. LOL!
Bloody Footprint Floor Clings – IN-13657580
I LOVE these decals. They really add to your Halloween home. Imagine what your guests (or even your own family) will think when they see bloody footprints entering (or leaving) your home.
I like that the footprints vary a bit – some are more well-formed than others, just like a really dirty footprint would be.
These are a lot like window clings, but very sticky. You can peel them off and reuse them (keep the original packaging if possible). Just be careful to slowly peel them off so you don’t peel off any paint or varnish.
Bloody Wall Decals – IN-13603936
You can’t have bloody footprints without some blood splatters here and there.
These decals are similar to the floor ones, but they can go on the wall too. They are also sticky and can be reused. Just be careful when peeling them off. A couple of years ago I peeled off a wall decal (not these) and accidentally pulled off some paint.
I have these blood splatters around my home – in the hallway, on the bathroom door, on the bedroom door and a few other places here and there.
This set comes with bloody hand prints and the word “help” written in blood. I don’t have the “help” up yet because I was going to put it on our front door for the Trick-or-Treaters to see. It’s going to look so cool on the front door. I know people will do a double take.
LED Skull in Spider Cocoon – IN-25/6251
Isn’t this so cool! His eyes light up bright red too.
I have this handing from the opening between the dining room and living room. To add to the look I put two spiders webs next to him (in the corners of the opening frame) and a giant spider on the wall nearby.
Because this hangs the littlest breeze makes it move around.
My kids are used to my macabre decorations (I’ve been doing this since they were little) but my daughter said that this skull is “gross.” Good! Just the reaction I was hoping for.
Bloody Weapons Cut Outs – IN-13703536
I needed a way to explain the blood splatters everywhere, so I added some bloody weapons around our home. I have them in the hallway and on the doors (bathroom, bedroom, closet…).
These are made out of cardboard and I hung the up with a little tape on the back. These can be reused again and again year after year. There are several pieces. I have a couple that I have no hung up yet.
Zombie Posters – IN-13703533
I love zombies. Well… not REAL zombies. Those I would be terrified of. Ha Ha.
I’ve enjoyed zombies since I saw the original Dawn of the Dead film (1978).
These posters are not actually posters but rather cardboard cut outs. That means they are sturdy and can be reused year after year. Mine are held up by some tape in the back.
With the weapons, blood splatters and bloody footprints it does look like zombies invaded our home. I even have a zombie cut out in the hallway (not from Oriental Trading).
Hanging Spider Ceiling Decoration – IN-13708569
This decoration is so simple to “install.” Simply tack the ends of and drape it across the ceiling. We used regular tacks (the kind you use on a cork board) because this is too heavy for regular tape.
This decoration is all one piece. It’s clear and the spiders hang down from clear strands. They are not entirely clear (you can see everything) but at first glance it appears like dozens of spiders are coming down from the ceiling.
I had to cut a few of them off (the ones near the door) because they kept getting caught in the door and I was afraid someone would pull the entire thing down when they closed the door.
You can see the light on the ceiling. The decoration is draped just below it so that the plastic is no where near the light source. This is our hallway and we only put the light on at night if needed. If this light was on more often I would have moved the decoration to a better location.
It’s fun to walk in our front door and be greeted by dozens of spiders.
Sticky Maggots – IN-13656310
I haven’t used the maggots as of yet. My “game plan” was to make a meal for my family (closer to Halloween) and tuck a few maggots around the food on their plates. I know it’s totally going to gross them out. My husband knows I have these (I showed him) but he doesn’t know what I have planned for them.
These are reusable so you can use them year after year to freak out family and friends.
