I love water. I know that sounds odd but it’s true. I drink water all day long. In a way I have to. I have a weird little “quirk” with a salivary gland that causes a lump to form in the duct under my tongue if I get dehydrated. It’s a great indicator if I haven’t drank enough because I can actually feel the lump form. It’s gross, but I have learned to live with it.
Even though I like water (especially a tall glass of icy water) I do like to mix it up a bit and add some flavor. Sometimes I’ll go with some unsweetened iced tea with a splash of lemon.
I have tried a variety of flavor packets to add some flavor to my water. Some are “OK” and some are just “blah”.
I recently had the opportunity to try out the Crystal Light Pure Fitness on the go packets. The available flavors are Strawberry Kiwi, Grape and Lemon Lime.
Each box of Crystal Life Pure Fitness comes with seven flavor packets. I wish they would come with a lot more then that. I drive close to a gallon of water per day and I would like to indulge in more then one packet per day if the mood hits me. I hope they make larger boxes in the near future.
Crystal Light Pure Fitness contains Electrolytes to aid hydration, no artificial sweeteners, flavors or preservatives and has about 75% fewer calories than leading beverages such as soda or other sugary drink mixes. The flavor packets are also caffeine and gluten free.
Each packet flavors 16 ounces of water, which is pretty much a standard size water bottle (both reusable and non-reusable), or you can measure it out in a tall glass.
Crystal Light Pure Fitness contains 15 calories – but – that was a bit misleading because you are suppose to use an entire packet for 16 ounces of water (as directed on the package) however when you read the nutritional information it tells you that 1/2 a packet is actually a serving size and that is what contains the 15 calories. If you use the entire packet as instructed the calorie count is actually 30 calories. Thirty calories is certainly A LOT better then other sweetened drinks, but none the less they should say that the product is 30 calories, not 15 calories.
I had the opportunity to try out all three flavors. Grape is my favorite. I’m not much of a juice or sweetened beverage drinker but I found the Grape to be very enjoyable. It was not too sweet. It was “just right”. Lemon Lime was my next favorite. It tasted just like lemonade. Strawberry Kiwi was my least favorite, only because it left an artificial taste in my mouth. It wasn’t horrible, it just left a bit of an odd taste compared to the others. The Strawberry Kiwi had a faux sweetener after taste to it.
I’m giving the Crystal Light Pure Fitness two thumbs up. It’s flavorful and the packets are small enough to tote in your purse to take with you on the go. Personally I will continue to drink this, but I’ll use is sparingly since 30 calories can add up if you are watching your weight (if you use all seven packets that is 210 calories).
Crystal Light Pure Fitness is available at most grocery retail locations.
*I received sample packets free to do this review. There was no other compensation. The opinions expressed are my own.
