I’m really trying to get “all my ducks in a row”, so to speak, for the holidays. I actually have a few check lists already written up, and it’s barely into November. 🙂 How is that for being proactive? Ha Ha.
Earlier in the year I was at AC Moore (craft store) and I found some pretty pre-made floral arrangements. They are not big. Just a few flowers in a small flower pot. I picked up three of them. One for the dining room, one for the living room and one for the bathroom. When Autumn arrived I replaced them with three potted plants in pretty shades of fall (red, orange and yellow).
Since we have five cats and a dog I purchased artificial plants. They look sort of real. I wish they were.
I would love to add some Christmas flowers to my home this year, but I am not sure of what kind of flowers to look for. When I think if Christmas I think of the colors red, green and white. I also think about silver and gold (thanks to the song) but I don’t know of any silver and/or gold plants.
There is not way I will put a poinsettia plant in my home unless it’s a fake one. Those plants are highly toxic to cats and dogs and they can get sick and possibly die if they ingest any of it. I really do like the look of those plants. They really remind me of Christmas. I’m just afraid to have one in my home. It’s a shame too because if they are cared for properly they can last for a very long time. I think I’ll stick with other fresh flowers instead.
I’ve been checking out online flower delivery sites to get a few ideas. Many of them are still offering Autumn/Fall florals and haven’t replaced them with Christmas flowers yet.
Speaking of online floral shops, I always love to check out the Christmas gift baskets or Christmas hampers like my mum used to say (she was from Wales, UK). They are always so lovely. Whenever I try and make up a gift basket as a gift they never turn out as nice as the ones you can purchase online. I wish I had the talent to make up lovely gift baskets. It’s not so much arranging the items as it is coming up with the items to include in the gift basket. I always feel like I don’t have enough to put in the basket.
Anyway… back to flowers.
I really want to decorate with flowers this year. I think they add a really nice touch to our home. I prefer fake over real, only because of the cats. But I don’t want them to look completely artificial. Therefore I might have to put my own arrangements together but I don’t know what flowers I should use.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
