As I mentioned in an earlier post, my daughter is totally clueless as to what she wants to be for Halloween. I kind of laugh at this. When I was her age my choices were those hideous plastic masks (do you remember those?) or create my own costume. Most of the time I opted to create my own costume.
If you are like us and looking for inspiration this Halloween you should check out Savers.com. Not only do they have creative costumes you can make yourself but they also feature some of this season’s hottest costumes.
One suggestion I found on the Savers web site is the Jersey Shore Girl and Jersey Shore Boy. My daughter has already done her impression of “Snookie” (much to our dismay I might add). I can imagine my kids going as a boy and girl from the Jersey Shore show. I’m sure that would be funny.
FYI… we DON’T watch the show, nor are out kids allowed to watch it either (NO WAY!).
According to Savers other hot costume ideas this year are Lady GaGa and Katy Perry.
Do you already have a costume but need help or inspiration on how to do the make up? Savers.com also offers instructions and videos on how you can turn yourself in a Zombie, Pirate, Alien and more.
My favorite section on the site is the DIY crafts. One of my favorite ones is the Dolls of the Living Dead Zombie looking dolls that are made from old Barbie dolls (or similar type dolls). It is SO EASY to make! All you need are some old dolls, self-sticking gauze, white paint and a black marker.
I think it would be COOL to make these with larger baby dolls too. Ha! Imagine your guests faces when they see Zombie babies around your home. LOL!
There are other fun craft and decoration ideas like the Terrifying Table Cloth (SUPER easy!) and the Batty Photo Backdrop to take photos of your “horrified” guests. LOL!
Speaking of contests, Savers is having a Halloween photo contest. Upload your spookiest Halloween photos (costumes, decor, make up…) for your chance to win cash.
Savers is not only about helping you to find ways to save money but also to save our environment by finding ways to re-sell and re-purpose items to keep them out of the landfills.
Savers is a store chain, similar to a thrift store. I don’t have one local to me so I honestly cannot tell you what kinds of things you can expect. What I do know is that they get new products in daily. They also donate money to local charities every time you donate a quality item at one of their stores.
There are more then 200 Savers locations across the country, Canada and Australia. Sometimes they are referred to as Value Village. You can check to see if there is one in your area by visiting their official website, www.Savers.com. There you can also learn more about the company as well find other great ideas.
In this day and age where every penny counts, getting creative and finding ways to repurpose things is even more important then ever.
