Halloween FUN with Family Fun Magazine (Giveaway!)

Ghost and Goblins every where are anxiously waiting for October 31st to come around so that they can parade around town in their best Halloween costume and pick up some tasty treats along the way.

Some children are still undecided as to what they are going to be, like my daughter. Back in the day when I was a child I always made my own costumes. My sister is very talented and she created some wonderful costumes for my niece and nephew over the years. Some children and parents prefer to put on their thinking caps and come up with unique and creative costume ideas rather then hand over $40+ to purchase a costume.

If you are someone who enjoys making Halloween costumes, but are in need of some inspiration, then you need to check out the very special Halloween edition of Family Fun magazine.

I have been turning to Family Fun magazine over the years for all my crafty inspirations and fun recipes to prepare for my children. I have saved pretty much every issue since day one. Here is just part of my collection of Family Fun magazines.

My husband has been bugging me for years to get rid of them. I don’t want to because the pages are packed with so many wonderful ideas. I suppose one day I’ll have to get rid of most of them and just keep a few favorites, but for now I’m happy to leave them “as is”.

Family Fun magazines special Halloween edition is sold in store, it is not part of the regular subscription issues. It can be found at bookstores, grocery stores and where ever magazines are sold.

I have read the magazine from cover to cover and I am in awe of the brilliant ideas. Not only do they have directions to make the coolest little “Monster Toes” snack treats (seen at the bottom right of the right page) but they also have easy to make Halloween costumes for your little Ghosts and Goblins. Some of the costumes do require you to have more then a basic knowledge of sewing but most of the costumes can be whipped up by novices like me.

Some of the ideas I recall seeing in past issues, however I did notice a few things that were new to me like the super adorable Garden Gnome costumes.

Did you know that Family Fun also makes fun craft kits? The kits come in a “spooktacular” variety of activities sure to please your children. The kits include Halloween Tie Dye, B00-tiful Balloons, Creepy Creatures and Pumpkin Pals, to name a few. These special kits are sold at Wal-mart stores across the country. Each kit sells for around $5.00. That is a small price to pay for fun activity you and your children can do together.

We have the Stepping Stone kit which allows my kids to make a cute pumpkin stepping stone. Since we don’t have a yard we’ll set it on a decorative plate stand and use it as a decoration in our home.

The kit came with everything we needed including the mold, plaster, mixing stick, paint, paint brush and gloves. The instructions were super easy to follow. All we had to do was mix the plaster with some warm water, mix it thoroughly and then smooth out the top. We were able to mix it inside the mold too so there is no extra clean up.

Unfortunately I don’t have a photo of the finished product. I’ll have to upload that later on. We prepared this on Sunday and its still in the mold. The recommend that the plaster be left for 24 hours to completely dry. We’re just leaving it in the mold until the weekend so that my kids can “un-mold” it and paint it. They are already fighting over who gets to paint it so one of my kids will paint the pumpkin part and the other can paint a design on the back.

  1. I love Family Fun! I used to get it in mail before I had to cut back on all mags and extra things. Now I pick it up when I can. I needed to declutter so I made a “Fun Activities” scrapbook which is an old photo album filled with crafts/ recipes and other great activities that I clipped and tore out of the old mags (which I then recycled). Those ghost milk jugs are in it! In fact, I think we’ll make thenm thi syear 🙂 I also love the cute gourds they decorated http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/gorgeous-gourds-710644/
