I have a difficult time falling asleep at night. I find it hard to turn my brain off. I know that sounds weird, but my brain is always “on.” I have a hard time turning it off (if that makes any sense).
I take a lot of over the counter (OTC) products (not at the same time of course) in order to help me sleep. It’s odd because they work sometimes and other times they don’t. It’s “hit or miss” most nights, and it’s anyone’s game whether or not I can fall asleep.
My husband says it’s because I’m always stressed out. That is partially correct. I also have anxiety, and as I mentioned earlier, I can’t seem to turn my brain off.
I find that having a background sound helps me to de-stress, and in turn, it can help me to fall asleep, or at least mellow out my thoughts enough to fall asleep.
I also find that I can focus better and get more work done with a background noise on. How weird is that.
I don’t normally watching television during the day. My husband watches the morning news every day, and I tend to leave the television on the whole time leading up to when I have to go to work in the afternoon. I find the the background noise helps me to focus and get more things done.
I was recently introduced to the iLive White Noise Machine.
I know there are many sound machines in the market, but most only have a few sounds at best. The iLive White Noise Machine has 25 sounds. In addition, it also has a built in light that serves as a nightlight.
Here are more details about the product.

I was sent one of these machines to try out for myself.
The iLive White Noise Machine comes with a USB cord. You will need a USB cube to power it, or you can insert it into your computer. The cord is different than our current iPhone cord, but I have an older Apple Watch, so I have been using the cube from that to power it up. Mostly I keep this on my desk (which is near where we sleep) so I just plug it into the USB hub on my desk.
I have listed to all the sounds on this machine. You can easily scroll through them by pressing on the forward/backward buttons on the top of the machine.
The control buttons are easy to use and understand. I did have a hard time figuring out how to change the colors on the machine. It was originally red, but I found if I press and hold on the forward button, it changes the color. It has many colors to choose from. You can also control the brightness of the nightlight by pressing on the button in the middle that looks like a sun.
The light can get very bright (I wouldn’t be surprised if it could light up a room. I keep mine on the dimmed level.
I tend to keep mine on blue, green or purple (I switch between them).
I love that this has a timer (between 1-4 hours). That way it will go off even when I am asleep.
As far as the sounds are concerned, there are A LOT to choose from. My personal favorites are;
- Campfire
- Singing Birds (this one drives my cat’s crazy, especially my kittens)
- ALL of the enlightening sounds/music. They are GREAT for helping you to fall asleep. They are so pretty to listen to.
The water sounds are nice too.
The white noises I actually use sometimes when I am at my desk. It’s odd, but they help me to clear my head.
I am thoroughly enjoying the iLive White Noise Machine. I’m not the only one who enjoys this either. If you check out the reviews on the iLive website for this machine, you’ll find that many others enjoy it too. It currently has 4.9 out of five stars on their site.

I have to use some sort of white noise machine since I hear the cars outside all the time. I will keep this one in mind, it sounds great.
