Who doesn’t love ice cream cake? I know it’s a huge favorite in my home. My kids and my husband always request ice cream cakes for their birthday. I could easily bake a cake, or pick one up at the bakery, but they rather have the ice cream cakes.
I would buy ice cream cakes more often if they weren’t very pricey. Our local grocery store sells them and they are a small fortune. I could pick up cakes at Baskin-Robbins but our local store is not very close to where I live. Although now that I have had a chance to try one of their ice cream cakes I think I’m going to make the effort to swing by the store and get our ice cream cakes from there rather then the grocery store. For about the same price I can get a freshly made cake from Baskin-Robbins rather then one that has been in deep freeze for who knows how long.
My family had the opportunity to enjoy one of the holiday Baskin-Robbins cakes for Christmas. I picked up the Snowman cake. I actually had a hard time picking out which holiday one I wanted to order. The Snowman, Santa and Elf cakes were all too cute.
The hard part was picking out which one I wanted to get. The rest of it was easy. Once I selected the design I told the girl behind the counter which one I wanted and when I wanted to pick it up. She filled out a form and asked me for just a little information (name and phone number) and that was it. All I had to do was show up on the day/time that I said I needed the cake by and pick it up. The ordering process was THAT easy.
Sometimes what you see in a photo isn’t always what you get in person. That was not the case with the Snowman cake from Baskin-Robbins. Our cake looked almost identical to the one in the photo.
The photo on the left is a Baskin-Robbins photo. It’s actually a photo of the individual cake. I am including it as an example. The actual cake is pictured above in the group shot. The one on the right is our cake. With the exception of some slight variations in the colors the cakes are nearly identical.
My family could not wait to dig into the cake.
As with any ice cream cake it’s best to let it sit out for a few minutes to soften up, otherwise cutting it will be difficult. Even with a very sharp nice it’s hard to slice through frozen solid ice cream.
My husband and I both had a hard time cutting into this cute little Snowman. With his big button eyes looking up at you it was hard to jab a knife into his head. Finally my husband gave in and cut into the Snowman. Poor little Snowman.
Inside the cake was a lot of yummy Baskin-Robbins Vanilla ice cream and some actual Chocolate cake. Unlike other brands there are no little “crunchies” in the middle. Just an actual cake topped off with a lot of ice cream.
Off hand I don’t remember how many people this cake would serve, but I would have to guess around 8-12 people depending on the slices. I have a family of four and we had this cake two nights in a row (one slice each) plus there was some left over. Some of the slices were bigger then the others too. It might seem like a small cake but actually you can get a lot of slices out of it.
The only part of the cake I wasn’t overly keen about was the decorative frosting (like the red earmuff and blue band and the red and blue along the bottom). My husband and kids ate it. It was just a wee bit too sweet for my taste.
We also picked up another cake, one that was decorated with Hershey’s Kisses. Unfortunately I didn’t snap a photo of that one before my family gobbled it up like a swarm of locus. LOL!
Some Baskin-Robbins stores also carried individual Snowman and Mrs. Snowman treats. Unfortunately our local Baskin-Robbins didn’t have them available. I would love picked up a few of them if I could.
The individual ones sat on top of a chocolate cookie.
The Baskin-Robbins Snowman, Santa and Elf cakes have a suggested retail price of $26.99 and the individual treats have a suggested price of $2.49.
Baskin-Robbins sells ice cream cakes year round, including special ones for the holidays. The next time you are having family and friends over to celebrate the holidays why not pick up one of their adorable ice cream cakes. They would make for a great centerpiece too.
Looking for a gift or stocking stuffer idea? Why not pick up some Baskin-Robbins gift cards. They range from $2 – $100 and never expire. They are good at participating Baskin-Robbins stores.
