I have nothing but praise to give to the Cracker Barrel restaurants. Last night we drove upstate to take my father, step-mother and Grandfather (I call him “Dad” since he raised me along with my Grandmother) out to dinner. It was my “Dad’s” birthday the beginning of the month (he’s now 84) and yesterday was my father’s 60th birthday. Since they are always treating us out to dinner or breakfast we told them we were treating THEM out to dinner. We let them pick out the restaurant and they chose Cracker Barrel.
If you have never ate at a Cracker Barrel restaurant they offer A LOT of “comfort” type foods, things like chicken and rice, hamburgers, chicken and dumplings… things like that. They also offer great side dishes (lots of veggies – love the carrots!). It’s the type of food your mom used to make. Meatloaf, Roast Beef… you get the idea.
I wouldn’t say that Cracker Barrel is our favorite restaurant, but the food is great and we have always enjoyed eating there.
Yesterday my husband moved money from savings into checking, figuring that seven people out to dinner would cost well over $100, especially when you factor in drinks, appetizers, and desserts. So we were all prepared to spent well over $100 last night.
Do you know what the bill came to? For seven people to eat (five adults and two children who ate off the adult menus) the total came to… $63.02!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We almost fell out of our seats! My husband checked it over and over again just to make sure the waitress didn’t forget to add anything (we are honest people – we would have told her if she forgot something). Nope… it was all there!
No one had dessert (we were all too full) and only my husband had an appetizer (salad). But still, $63 for seven people to have dinner that is amazing! We once went to Applebees (me, my husband and our two kids). We had appetizers (an order of mozzarella sticks and my husband had a salad) and desserts, along with our meal, and it came to $87! OUCH! So that was the last time we did that and we haven’t been out to eat there since. So you can image how SHOCKED we were to pay the $63 bill from last night.
Cracker Barrel also has a gift shop right when you walk in (good marketing on their part). My kids love the Peg Game that they have on each table (see picture). They sell them in their gift shop. Do you know how much they were? They were only $2.79 each. WOW!!! I was thinking they would try and up the price but they didn’t. So we picked up two games, one for each of my kids. My kids love that game and they can sit and do it for an hour without thinking about it. It’s better then watching TV that is for sure.

So I tip my hat off to Cracker Barrel and give them lots of praise and kudos. In this day and age where everything is so expensive and people honestly cannot afford “luxuries” like dining out, I want to give praise to the Cracker Barrel restaurant for being so affordable.
Great food. Great service. Great prices… you can’t beat that!
