Don’t you wonder why some products just up and disappear? You would think that they are popular with consumers, but for some odd reason companies just stop making products, or the companies themselves shut down.
Some of my favorite products that just disappeared include Freakies cereal, Nabisco Chocolate Chip Snaps Cookies (the box had a cat face drawn over the cookie), Nabisco Tid Bit Cheese Crackers and Freshen Up Gum. Do you remember these products (pictured above)?
Every now and then a company will bring back a popular product from it’s past. Sadly these are often only limited editions so you need to buy them all up when you see them or miss out.
Mike and Ike has now made available some of their retro flavors, but only for a limited time. The flavors are Mike and Ike Cherri and Bubb and Mike and Ike Lem and Mel.
Mike and Ike first became popular back in 1989, when Cherri and Bubb were the must have flavors. Cherri and Bubb was followed by Lem and Mel two years later (1991).
“We are very excited to bring back Cherri and Bubb and Lem and Mel,” says Donald Houston, Senior Marketing Manager for Mike and Ike. “We hope this will inspire good memories from our loyal fans and introduce a new group of Mike and Ike lovers to these favorites from the past. Perhaps this might even inspire Mike and Ike to rekindle their friendship and business relationship.”
You might recall that Mike and Ike have split up due to creative differences. I even wrote about it last year (https://www.shescribes.com/2012/04/what-happened-to-mike-ike.html).
The Mike and Ike split shocked the world last spring, generating a high volume of fan and celebrity reactions. The independent and talented duo has decided to follow their true passions. Mike is a musician at heart and produced a music video; Ike is an urban artist and a lover of art. Their split is not unlike that of other famous celebrity duos like Simon and Garfunkel or Lennon and McCartney.
Cherri and Bubb is a blend of cherry flavored candies and bubble gum flavored candies. Combined they taste great together. They are also great individually. The cherry does taste like cherry and the bubble gum flavored tastes like what bubble gum tasted like when I was a kid. It’s the real bubble gum flavor and not the funky flavors that are available in gum these days.
Lem and Mel (Lemon and Lime) is also a nice flavor combination. I really like the lime flavor. Of all four flavors the lime is my favorite, followed by the bubble gum.
B0th retro flavor combinations are hitting store shelves now and will only be available through April 2013. Both flavors are available in 5 ounce boxes with a suggested retail price from $1.00 – $1.39.
Look for them on a store shelf near you. Make sure to stock up if you enjoy these flavors before they are gone.
If you would like to keep up to date on the Mike and Ike split, or about the Mike and Ike candies, you can check them out online at www.MikeandIke.com or follow them on Facebook.
