Coming to digital on May 3, 2022 is the heart pounding drama, Breath.
Breath stars Rachel Daigh, James Cosmo, and Neb Chupin. There are very few characters in this film Rachel Daigh carries 95% of the film on her own.
Daigh stars as Lara Winslet, a geologist that specializes in volcanology.
Lara has been studying one particular volcano for about a month, and at the urging of a friend and co-worker, it’s time to leave for the day. Lara said she’ll be leaving shortly and soon finds herself alone on top of the mountain.
Lara leaves but has to return to the volcano once she realizes she left something behind. After she retrieves her missing item, she lingers behind to think and watch the sun set.
On her way back down, Lara slips into a deep hole in the ground. She gets severely injured.
Lara is now help captive inside the ground with no food, very little water, injured and no one knowing her whereabouts. As far as her friend and co-workers know, she left for work hours prior.
Days go by and Lara is still trapped and fully convinced that she will meet her end in the hole.
One of the things that gets to Lara the most is the silence inside the hole. The only thing she has to “listen” to are her thoughts.
Lara spends her time thinking about her life, the loss of her child and father, what brought her to where she is now.
Time is running out quickly. No one knows where she is. No one can hear her. And she has only two sips of water left and no food.
How can she escape from this hell hole? Or are viewers simply taking a “journey” into the mind of a person who is moments away from taking their last breath? To find out, check out Breath. Look for it on digital May 3, 2022.
I have never seen the James Franco film, 127 Hours. I can only imagine that it’s similar to this movie where someone is trapped and injured with no way of getting help, and no one knowing where they are. I know the character in 127 Hours survives, but does Lara survive in this film? I’m not going to tell you and spoil it.
I’m very impressed that Daigh was able to carry this whole film. There are brief scenes with other characters, but for the most part this film rests entirely on Daigh and her acting, which I was impressed with.
Most of the film we “hear” as much as we see what is going on. We, the viewers, are privy to what Lara is thinking during this ordeal. It’s not only about what she’s currently going through. A lot of it also has to do with things that has happened to Lara in the past.
I say “heart pounding” at the beginning of my post. I don’t mean it in the literal sense, but rather, for me, my anxiety level was building the longer she was stuck in the hole. The situation is very dire. I felt almost claustrophobic seeing her in her surroundings. I wouldn’t be nearly as “calm” as she is. I’d be freaking out for sure.
Below you’ll find the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
