Now available on DVD and Digital, VOD platforms including iTunes, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Xbox, Vudu, as well as local cable and satellite providers, is the horror film, Conjuring the Beyond.
The film stars Victoria Grace Borrello, Steve Larking, Tim Coyle, Neil Green, Jax Kellington, Joh Meggison and Chyna Rae Shurts.
Conjuring the Beyond was directed by Calvin More McCarthy (Mutant Vampires from Planet Neptune, A Haunting In Ravenwood).
Conjuring the Beyond started as a literal nightmare”, said McCarthy. “About a year ago I had my first and only experience with sleep paralysis. At that moment, when I woke up I immediately thought of it as a movie. What if that WAS real. What if in that state between consciousness and unconsciousness our minds are susceptible to other worlds around us? Maybe the unconscious isn’t such a pretty place. The concept and the overall story for Conjuring the Beyond came quickly. It was one of those ideas that feels so hot that it almost writes itself.”
I had an episode of sleep paralysis a few years ago. Incidentally, my daughter had the SAME experience the SAME night. Can you say CREEPY?
I was fast asleep and I woke up suddenly. I opened my eyes and I swear I saw a tall, dark figure standing near the bed. He was wearing a hood or hoodie and he had broad shoulders. I wanted to wake up my husband because I was scared, but I couldn’t move. I couldn’t even open my mouth. I could only close my eyes, which I did. I waited a few minutes and I opened my eyes again and it was gone.
The next morning our daughter came to use telling her that she woke up and saw someone standing at the foot of her bed. She wanted to know why we (my husband or I) went into the bedroom in the middle of the night. We told her it wasn’t us. Then she said she thought it was my husband because the figure was a tall male with a dark hoodie on. She saw the SAME figure I saw!
My husband insists our son did it to scare us, but he swears it wasn’t him.
Not even our dog woke up, and our dog would bark at the slightest thing.
Weird, huh?
Anyway… Conjuring the Beyond is about a group of individuals who suffer with sleep paralysis and seek treatment as part of a sleep study.
The film primarily focuses on Wanda, who is recently divorced and in dire need to change her life for the better, including building her confidence and self esteem. She also needs to get her sleep issues under control.
The sleep clinic utilizes hypnosis as part of the sleep therapy. Wanda is not too keen on the idea where as the other people in the group (sleep study participants) don’t seem to phased by it.
The group start to see the same sleep “demon” who visits all of them during the night.
Soon, participants start disappearing one by one. Wanda fears she’ll be next.
Will Wanda end up like the other people in the sleep study, or will she find a way to survive before it’s too late? Will she be able to over come the sleep paralysis to live a normal life? TO find out, check out Conjuring the Beyond. Look for it on the platforms listed at the top of this post.
As a dire hard horror movie fan, it takes A LOT to impress me (sad to say).
As far as the sleep demon is concerned, she’s pretty eerie looking. She has black eyes and long nails. She makes that “creaky door” sound like ghost in The Grudge. If you’ve seen the film, you probably know the sound I’m referring to.
I wish there was more scenes with her. I was impressed by her. I certainly wouldn’t want to open my eyes in the middle of the night and see her hoovering over me.
Overall, the film it’s self I found to be slow moving. I also think they could have added more to it than just the occasional sighting of the sleep demon. It seemed like it was missing something, but I’m not sure what. The best parts of the film happen within the last fifteen minutes, however, there are “things” about the last few minutes of the film that are laughable too (I won’t say… but think “zombie”). The very last moment of the film makes you think “huh?” What the heck. When you see the film, you’ll know what I mean.
The acting was fairly decent. I am not familiar with any of the actors, but they did a good job. I found their acting to be convincing.
