With Christmas just around the corner numerous holiday themed movies will be popping up all over on television, VOD, iTunes and other platforms. Some holiday movies are delightful. Others are just too silly. Some are just painfully bad to watch.
A new film called My Dad is Scrooge takes the Charles Dickens classic and twists it into a whole new way – with talking animals no less.
Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Charles Shaugnessy (The Nanny) and Bonnie Wright (Harry Potter franchise) lend their voice talent to the holiday movie My Dad is Scrooge, taking A Christmas Carol and turning it into A Christmas Corral as the animals of Woodsley Farm help siblings Oliver and June stage the classic tale in an effort to convince their dad to embrace the spirit of the holidays. Oliver and June are prepping for their mom’s Christmas pageant, but their dad EB (Brian Cook) has lost his love for Christmas. The kids see the worst of EB’s Scrooge-like behavior when he takes them to the Woodsley Farm only to serve the owners a foreclosure notice. All seems lost until Oliver is awakened to all of the Woodsley Farm animals in his room—and much to his surprise, talking! Oliver, June and the animals work together to use the classic tale of A Christmas Carol to get back the farm and help EB believe in Christmas once again!
The film is currently available on Amazon, AT&T, Google Play, iTunes, Vimeo, VUDU and Comcast.
Adults might find this film a bit too silly. My teenagers thought it was a silly movie too, although my daughter did love the talking animals. I have a feeling young children will absolutely love this movie, not only for the talking animals but also because it’s a cute story that most kids could relate to.
I’m sure we all now someone who is a but “Scrooge-like”, but imagine if that person was your own father. That is what the kids in this film have to deal with.
Kids will enjoy the talking animals the most. They are not only cute but also comical. Although you have to wonder how they manage to get into the home AND not leave any “signs” (aka – business) behind so that they parents are aware of their visits. Of course that is an adult thinking. Little kids will simply enjoy the cute, fuzzy talking critters.
I wanted to like this movie. I really did, but this falls on the side of over silly. I did enjoy it but not as much as I had hoped for. It’s one of those movies where you watch it once and you probably won’t watch it again unless you have little ones who truly enjoyed it.
It’s NOT a bad movie. Honestly, it’s not. It’s just very silly and goofy. Sometimes silly and goofy are a good thing. 🙂
Look for My Dad is Scrooge on Amazon, AT&T, Google Play, iTunes, Vimeo, VUDU and Comcast.
