It’s time to blast off into the cosmos for an interstellar adventure with Disney and Pixar’s latest animated film, Elio. Look for it on digital retailers such as Prime Video, Apple TV, Movies Anywhere and Fandango at Home.
The film will be available on Blu-ray, 4K Ultra and DVD on September 9, 2025.
This film features the voice talents of Yonas Kibreab, Remy Edgerly, Zoe Saldaña, and Brad Garrett, to name a few.
Elio loses his parents and is sent to live with his aunt, who happens to work as part of the space program, keeping an eye out for space debris.
Elio, a space fanatic with an active imagination, finds himself on a cosmic misadventure where he must form new bonds with eccentric alien lifeforms, navigate a crisis of intergalactic proportions and somehow discover who he is truly meant to be.

AMBASSADORS – When 11-year-old Elio (voice of Yonas Kibreab) is beamed up to space, he finds himself in the Communiverse, an interplanetary organization with representatives from galaxies far and wide. Like humans, the members of the Communiverse come in all shapes, sizes and personalities. Among them are Ambassador Mira (far left), Ambassador Helix (third from left), Ambassador Questa (center), Ambassador Tegman (third from right) and Ambassador Turais (second from right). I loved this film. Now I’m disappointed that I didn’t see it while it was in theaters. I bet it would have looked so much nicer on the big screen.
I think many kids, even “big kids” (adults) like myself, dream of exploring the universe. I did when I was a child. I didn’t dream of being taken by aliens, but I did dream of space exploration and seeing new (ideally friendly) worlds. Although I guess times have changed a bit. I’m sure plenty of kids dream of being a gamer or gamer developer and not an astronaut (sigh…).
This film is by Disney and Pixar, so you know the animation is gong to be spectacular, and this film is no exception. It’s bright and colorful and things seem so realistic. The Communiverse especially was so inviting looking. I wanted to visit there too!
The characters are very likeable, including the alien beings (even the “bad guy”). I especially loved Elio’s friend Glordon, who looked like a slug – but a cute slug that you just want to hug.

UNEXPECTED FRIENDS – When Elio’s wish to be abducted by aliens actually comes true, he meets an array of space inhabitants, including Glordon, the tender-hearted son of a fierce warlord ruler. I thought the alien characters were very creative. None of them were scary (not even the bad guys). They were all very cute and non-threatening. Who wouldn’t want to be friends with them and be a part of the Communiverse. Even the little device Elio got to wear to make him able to communicate with the aliens, change his body temperature and turn on/off gravity was creative too.
The heart of this film is about family, friendship, grief, loneliness, and self-discovery. I felt bad for Elio in the beginning of the film seeing how sad and lonely he was. It made my heart smile as he slowly learned to overcome those feelings. I especially appreciate the evolution of his relationship with his aunt.
