Now available in select theaters across the country and on Digital HD is the thriller Emelie.
Emelie stars Sarah Bolger (Into the Badlands, Once Upon a Time) and Joshua Rush (Parental Guidance, Break Point).
Mr. and Mrs. Thompson are heading out on a big date to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Their regular babysitter, Maggie, has not been available much lately now that she had her braces removed. Their back-up baby sitter was also no where to be found.
In order to celebrate their anniversary they had to take on a new babysitter, Anna (Bolger).
The younger Thompson children, Sally (9) and Christopher (4) are OK with having a babysitter. Jacob (11 – played by Rush), is not too keen on the idea.
From the moment they met Anna she seemed nice, but as you know, looks can be decieving.
At first Anna seemed like your typical baby sitter, but soon her actions become a bit more sinister. Their new babysitter might not be who she appear to be, especially as far a Jacob is concerned. Soon it will be up to Jacob to rescue his younger sister and brother from the increasingly nefarious intentions of a very disturbed woman whose weapon is trust, and whose target is innocence.
Who is she? Is she really Anna – or someone else? And why did the sweet, young lady suddenly turn into pure evil? To find out you need to go see Emelie, now playing in select theaters as well as on Digital HD.
Below is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
I have to give kudos to the young actors in this film. For an intense film they really played their parts exceptionally well. Joshua Rush especially did an excellent job.
Sarah Bolger did a great job being both sweet and totally creepy at the same time. There is just something crazy about the look in her eyes. I don’t know if that is how she is or it’s the part she was playing. No matter what it is, she was very convincing as a total lunatic.
Some of the film might come off a bit cliche, but her reasoning behind her actions was something I didn’t see coming.
The ending was a bit predictable, but entertaining none the less.
There were a few scenes I honestly could have done without. I realize they were to show just how sick and depraved Anna/Emelie really is, but I think the film makers could have got their point across in other ways. The scenes I am referring to involve her menstrual cycle, a sex tape and killing and innocent (and adorable) hamster.
Speaking of sex, there is no sex or nudity in this film PER SAY. You can HEAR sex going on – it’s just not visual on screen.
Since this film is not yet on Blu-ray or DVD there are no bonus features.
Over all it was an entertaining film. I would certainly watch it again if I saw it come on TV.
