Available today where most movies are sold is the “dark” comedy Let’s Kill Ward’s Wife. The film was written and directed by actor Scott Foley, who also happens the star in the film. He plays the role of Tom.
In addition to Scott Foley the film also stars Donald Faison (Ward), Patrick Wilson (David), James Carpinello (Ronnie), Greg Grunberg (Bruce) and Nicolette Sheriden (Robin Peters).
Ward, David, Ronnie and Tom are best friends. They do everything together from golfing to attending each other’s children’s parties.
Tom is happily married with a loving wife and young son. Sadly the spark is missing from their marriage.
Ronnie is happily single, but happens to have a huge crush on one of Tom’s clients, Robin Peters.
David and his wife are having troubles in their marriage so they are having a trial separation and sharing custody of their young daughter.
Then there is Ward. Ward is married to Stacy and they have a young son together, Ramone.
Stacy is not a very likeable person. She’s mean, bossy and demanding and it’s making everyone around her miserable, most especially Ward. She’s also not a great mother, telling her friends that Ramone enjoys sitting in solid diapers as an excuse why she doesn’t change his poop filled diaper.
Poor Ward is at the mercy of his wife.
Ronnie, David and Tom wish they could do something about Stacy so that they can enjoy the company of their friend Ward again. In gest it was suggested that they kill off Ward’s wife. David even went so far as to look up ways to commit murder and dispose of the body.
One evening at a party Stacy walks in on Tom as he’s talking with his client Robin on the phone. She insinuates that Tom is cheating on his wife with the person on the phone. She even goes so far as to try and seduce Tom and suggests that she’s already cheated on Ward.
Out of frustration Tom smashes Stacy’s face into a cake sitting on the kitchen counter, then she slips on the floor and bumps her head. Instead of helping her, Tom proceeds to strangle her until she dies.
Tom is in shock and doesn’t know what to do so he calls his friends and their spouses (except Ward) into the kitchen. They are all very surprised that Tom killed Stacy, but no one is heartbroken – not even Ward when he accidently walks in on them.
Now the friends have a dead body on their hands… what are they going to do? How do they dispose of the body? How do they explain Stacy’s disappearance? How will they keep this from Ward’s nosey Police Officer neighbor Bruce? To find out you need to pick up a copy of Let’s Kill Ward’s Wife, available today where most movies are sold.
This is what you would call a “dark comedy.” It’s supposed to be funny, but with a morbid twist to it.
The group’s lack of remorse for what happened is a huge part of this comedy. Personally I didn’t find it too funny, but I get that it’s supposed to be funny.
There were one scene I could have done without – Ward urinating on his dead wife’s body. That was not necessary.
If you are not keen on gore you should know there are a few scenes that might make you close your eyes. I don’t want to tell you what they are because I don’t want to give away too much of the movie plot.
Overall it was an OK movie. I think men might find it a bit more funnier than women.
I’m sure many people can relate to having a friend’s whose spouse gets on your nerves – not that you’d kill them, but you wish they were out of the picture.
I liked the cast. They worked well together. They have great chemistry. Donald Faison has a way of making his facial expressions funny without saying a word.
As far as bonus features go it was basically just some outtakes from the set.
