How far would you go to help out a friend? Would you go to the ends of the Earth – literally? That is exactly what one little boy did in the animated short film Lost and Found.
Lost and Found is based on the book by the same name written by Oliver Jeffers.
Lost and Found is the story of a little boy who wakes up one morning to find a penguin on his door step. Needless to say the little boy knew the penguin surely had to be lost. Rather than abandon his new found friend he decides that the best thing to do is take him back to where he came from – the South Pole!
Together the young boy and penguin hop into a row boat and head off on an incredible journey to the South Pole. Along the way they encounter vicious waves and a giant octopus.
Will they succeed on making it back to the South Pole, or will the elements or another unforeseen danger prevent the little penguin from getting home? If you read the book you already know how the story ends.
This film actually premiered in the UK back in 2008. Since then it has won over 40 International awards including a BAFTA for Best Animated Short Film (2009).
I truly enjoyed this film. It’s not terribly long (maybe around 20 minutes, give or take). There is also no dialogue.
The animation is wonderful. It’s not the kind of animation that makes everything appear very realistic – except the ocean. That looks very real. It’s still a cartoon, but that adds to it’s charm.
The little boy and the penguin are adorable. You fall for them instantly and you want to cheer them on in hopes that they succeed in their journey. At the same time you don’t want to see these friends have to part ways.
This is the type of story that will appeal to young and old alike. This would make a wonderful stocking stuffer this holiday season.
Look for Lost and Found where ever films are sold.
