Available now on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital is the Sci-Fi thriller The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One. For the sake of this review, I’ll just review to this film as The Osiris Child.
The film stars Daniel MacPherson, Kellan Lutz, Isabel Lucas, Rachel Griffiths and new comer Teagan Croft.
Set on a futuristic planet far away, the Exor Company is attempting to reconstruct and colonize a planet using prisoners as laborers. They are also using the prisoners as “guinea pigs” for some experiments they are conducting, including one that turns them into monsters that are programmed to kill anything, including other human beings.
When their experiment goes awry, the Exor Company plans on destroying the planet to cover up their mistakes. That doesn’t sit well with Lt. Kane Sommerville (MacPherson) because his young daughter, Indi (Croft), is living on the planet (unbeknown to anyone else). He has only hours to rescue her before it’s too late. But rescuing her will not be an easy task. He’ll be faced with numerous challenges, including the monsters created by the Exor Company.
To help him maneuver through the planet to rescue his daughter, Lt. Sommerville enlists that help of a prisoner named Sy (Lutz).
It’s a race against time, ferocious beasts and the Exor Company in order to save Indi, the Osiris Child, before it’s too late.
Will they succeed? To find out you can pick up (or download) The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume One. Look for it where ever movies are sold.
There are some bonus features with the Blu-ray version of the film (the one I was sent to review – I’m not sure if they are included with the DVD or digital versions) including;
- Making of The Oriris Child.
- Deleted Scenes
- Photo Art Gallery
- Concept Art Gallery
Overall I thought it was a really good film. I don’t think this film was ever shown in theaters (unless it had a limited release). I never saw it playing local to me.
I think this film could have done well in theaters. If that film, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, did OK, then this film could have done well too. I look at it along the same vein as that movie.
Kellen Lutz has come a long way from his Twilight days. He can pull off more serious roles, as well as action roles. I think he was being under-used in the Twilight films. He has a lot more “acting chops” then the wise cracking, brooding, hunky character he played in that series. He has the potential to be a huge action star.
For a new comer, Teagan Croft pulled this role off very well. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of this young lady.
I was impressed by this film. I think it has a lot to offer – action, adventure, futuristic sci-fi, monsters, the bond between a parent and child, redemption and more.
They could have done a bit more with the landscape of the planet. It was a bit dull – like a giant dessert. I guess it could be seen like the planet of Tatooine, where Luke Skywalker grew up.
I’m a fan of the sci-fi genre. I grew up watching Star Trek and I am a HUGE fan of the Star Wars franchise. This film is no where near those shows/movies, but it is enjoyable to watch. It kept my interest and if there was ever a sequel I would make an effort to see it.
Below is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
