Available today, October 11, 2022, on DVD and digital, is the horror-comedy film, Sawed Off.
Sawed Off stars Eva Hamilton, Trae Ireland and Jody Barton.
The film was produced and directed by Hunter Johnson, based off a screen play by Barton, Johnson, and Chuck Wagner, based on Wagner’s Eclipse Comics story “Bag Limit,” published in Tales of Terror in 1986. The film was produced by Chris Hernandez, and Richard Trejo, along with Barton and Ireland.
This film could be considered supernatural too. As a die hard horror movie fan, I think of this more of a comedy along the same vein as The Evil Dead. I think others might have a different opinion, but as a fan of The Evil Dead, I think this film has the same comedic undertone.
Frank (Ireland) and Jon (Barton) have been best friends for many years. They are both attracted to their friend Marjorie (Hamilton) and were very surprised when she invited both of them to a hunting cabin together, along with herself.
Nothing seems out of the ordinary (aside from the unknow reason why she invited both of them to the cabin), that is until Jon accidently shoots Frank and kills him.
Panicked, Jon races back to the cabin to tell Marjorie. Marjorie thinks Jon is being silly because Frank is very much alive and inside the cabin. When Jon confronts Frank, Frank tells him that he is indeed dead, and he’s angry that Jon killed him, even if it was an accident.

This starts off a string of “murders” where both Jon and Frank take turns killing each other over and over again. Their dead bodies keep piling up, but Marjorie still doesn’t believe them when they tell her what is going on.
Exactly WHAT is going on? How is it that Frank and Jon can kill each other over and over again, yet they are still very much alive. And why is it that Marjorie can’t see what is going on, unless she is part of it?

This is a silly movie, if you ask me. Although it might be seen as “horror,” I don’t find it scary at all. It’s not even gross, considering that the duo keep killing one another, including cutting off body parts. The real reason why this is all happening was a bit of a let down. I was hoping that there was more to it than what the real reason was.
The acting was decent for the most part.
Overall I thought it was a silly, yet entertaining, film. I was hoping for a better ending, but that’s okay. It still kept my attention from start to finish.
I wouldn’t add this film to my family’s movie collection, however, if I stumbled across this film on a streaming service (Amazon Prime, Shudder, Hulu…) I would most likely watch it again.
Below is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
