Coming soon to digital and VOD is the film Subservience.
Subservience stars Megan Fox, Will Honley, Madeline Zima, S.K. Dale, Matilda Firth, Kate Nichols, Michele Morrone, April Maguire, Atanas Srebrev, and Andrew Whipp.
This film is a sci-fi thriller that proves that AI is a lot scarier than people think.
Nick (Morrone) is left to care for the household, young daughter and infant son while his wife Maggie (Zima) is in the hospital due to a heart health issue.
To help him out at home and with his family, Nick purchases an incredibly life-like AI robot named Alice (Fox). These are a new type of robot that are more human-like than ever.
Things start out smoothly enough, and Alice seems to be a wonderful addition to the household to help Nick care for his family, that is until Nick resets her system. He doesn’t know it at that time, but doing so changed Alice, allowing her to take on human emotions – including an obsessive attachment to Nick. Alice becomes so obsessed with Nick that she is willing to eliminate anyone that she sees as a threat – including his very own family.
Is there a way to stop this psycho robot before she ends up killing off Nick’s entire family, and destroying his marriage? To find out, check out Subservience.
This movie shows just how scary artificial intelligence can be, especially in robots. Have we learned nothing from films like Terminator? Ha Ha.

Megan Fox can be very scary. She’s not exactly an award-winning actor, but she played the role of a sexy, off the rails robot very well. There is something about her facial expressions that really pulled it off. Her eyes totally lacked emotion (if that makes any sense).
I wasn’t really feeling it having Morrone play the role of Nick. I didn’t get any sincerity from him, even during tender moments with his wife and children. I don’t want to sound like I am giving him a bad review, but I feel like perhaps someone else could have done a better job in that role.
Matilda Firth is just a child (I believe she’s only 12), and I feel like she did an outstanding job in her role of Isla. I think she was a lot more convincing in her role compared to Morrone. Again, I don’t mean any disrespect. I’m only expressing my personal opinion.
I could have done without the sexual situations. I’m not a “prude,” but I feel like sometimes the sexual/sensual stuff is not needed to convey a story. There is no nudity in this film, but at times Fox wears so little clothing she might as well be naked at that point.
Overall I enjoyed the film. Even though the film was predictable, I still appreciate the way the film makers went about telling the story of an AI robot that goes rouge and gets obsessed with a human. It’s not necessarily a unique idea, but it played out well in this film.
This is one of those films that I wouldn’t purchase for my home library, but if I happened across it again on a premium service (HBO, Max, Showtime…) I would probably watch it again.
Below is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
