I’ll be honest, I’m not big into westerns. I used ot love them a a child (John Wayne movies are the best), but as I got older, I drifted away from this genre.
I appreciate Nicholas Cage. He’s a chameleon. He can turn himself into any character, from the goofy boy in Valley Girl, to the weirdo in Willy’s Wonderland, to the lovestruck Ronny in Moonstruck. He can be funny to serious, and everything in between.
I don’ think he’s ever done a western before, but he certain brought his “A game.” He fit the role of Colton Briggs perfectly. His character didn’t show much emotion, not even in his face.
Young Ryan Kiera Armstrong played her role perfectly as well. I have never heard of this young lady before, but I can see she’ll be going places. I’m sure we’ll be seeing a lot of her in the future.
The story was really good, but I wish there was a bit more backstory shown in regards to Colton Brigg’s life. I would have liked to have known the backstory to the opening scene too, where a man was hung, and a shoot out occurred.
The story it’s self is really good. I liked the plot, in fact, I wish the film went just a wee bit further so I could see how things turned out for Brooke. I guess I’ll just have to use my imagination.
The cinematography is gorgeous. I don’t know where this film was shot, but I would love to LIVE there. The vast opened fields, the stunning mountains… it’s absolutely beautiful.
Overall it’s an enjoyable and entertaining film, even if you are not a fan of westerns. It’s more a story about family. love, revenge and a father/daughter relationship.

Nicholas Cage is a terrific actor. I have not been to a movie in a while, but this seems super to see with my husband.
