Now available On Demand is the heart-warming drama, Wild About Harry.
The film stars Tate Donovan, Adam Pascal, Josh Peck, Stacey Dash and Danielle Savre.
Harry (Donovan) is a widower raising two teenage daughter, Daisy (Skye McCole Bartusiak) and Madeline (Savre). He recently moved his family to Cape Cod, where he’s opened a shop selling primitive furniture.
Unbeknown to the girls, Harry has asked his business partner, Theo (Pascal), to move in with them.
At first things seemed great. The girls liked Theo, and he was a great cook. That is until Madeline goes to a gay club with some friends from school and finds his father and Theo there, dancing the night away.
Theo is more than a business partner – he’s also romantically involved with Harry.
The film is set back in the early 1970’s, where being homosexual was not as accepted as it is today. Not only that, a homosexual would have a difficult time raising a family, which is why it’s important for Harry to keep his relationship away from the outside world (much to the dismay of Theo).
Now that Madeline knows the truth, what will happen to her family? To find out, check out Wild About Harry, now available On Demand.
I honestly didn’t think about the implications of being homosexual were back in the early 70’s. It was a good reminder that society has come a long way.
Harry wasn’t fully homosexual. He was madly in love with his late wife. His relationship with Theo just happened (reminds me of Brokeback Mountain).
The young actors in this film did a great job. I was especially impressed by Josh Peck (although his accent was a bit over the top).
I love the setting of the film (near the beach). I also enjoyed seeing the retro clothing (I was a child in the 70’s).
Overall I enjoyed the film, even though I was thinking it was more of a comedy. It’s a drama, but it’s not always a serious drama. At times its a bit light hearted. This film is meant to pull on your heartstrings.
This film is about love, acceptance, and family. It also goes to show how much times have changed from decades ago when it comes to accepting people, even if their values might not be aligned with your own.
Below is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
