I love honey. I love how it tastes in tea, drizzled on yogurt and on oatmeal. There is only one problem – it’s super sticky and I always end up making a mess with is. I won’t even let my kids touch the honey. Oh no way! They would get it all over the place. It’s not that easy to clean up.
I need to watch my sugar intake. I try to avoid adding processed sugar at all costs. I have switched to sweetening my hot tea with just a squirt of lemon juice because I don’t want to add processed sugar into it.
I have tried using honey to sweeten my tea. I like how it tastes, but as I mention, it’s messy.
There is an alternative substitute that I recently had the opportunity to try out. It’s called Nektar Honey Crystals. It’s a healthier alternative to refined or artificial sweeteners.
Nektar Honey Crystals contain no additives, artificial colors or flavors or preservatives. One packet of Nektar Honey Crystals equals one level teaspoon of liquid honey, and has only 12 calories. Nektar Honey Crystals are a fat free and naturally gluten free option for savoring the sweetness of honey without the mess.
I like that it comes in individual packets. It makes it easy to toss a few into my purse for use on the go too. Plus it’s makes portion control a “no brainer”.
The crystals taste very sweet at first but after a few seconds you can taste the honey flavor. When I add it to tea it does add sweetness and just a light touch of honey flavor. The honey flavor is not as strong as it is if you use honey straight from the jar. If you are not a fan of honey, per say, but you want a better for your sweetener alternative, then you’ll like Nektar. It’s honey flavored but it doesn’t give you too much of the flavor.
Nektar Honey Crystals are great for…
Beverages: Dissolves in hot or cold beverages, such as tea, iced tea, or lemonade.
Marinades: Add flavor to meat, fish or poultry dishes; the perfect addition to your favorite dry rub.
Baking: Substitute for sugar (one-to-one ratio) in your favorite baked goods.
Toppings: Sprinkle on a bowl of fruit, cereal, oatmeal, or yogurt; top off waffles or pancakes.
All Natural Sports Drink: Mix Nektar Honey Crystals in ice cold water; add a touch of lemon or lime for an electrolyte enriched sports drink.
I’m going to use Nektar Honey Crystals on a ham that I am going to make for dinner. We have a beautiful spiral ham that we received for free after we spent a certain amount of $$ at our local grocery store (I cannot wait to enjoy it!). I’ve Googled a few recipes that use honey to make a glaze for the ham. I’m going to see which one would work best with the Nektar Honey Crystals.
I really enjoy the Nektar Honey Crystals. I’m not a fan of artificial sweeteners because in my opinion they leave an artificial taste in my mouth. I also don’t like putting things in my body that I can’t pronounce. I’ve also hear bad things about artificial sweeteners. Nektar is not artificial. It’s honey that has been crystallized.
I also like that it adds just the right amount of sweetness. A few times I’ve ended up using only 1/2 a packet. For the most part one packet is plenty.
Nektar Honey Crystals are available at select grocery stores across the country, including Whole Foods Markets. You find find store locations, plus learn more about Nektar at www.NektarNaturals.com. You can also find them on Facebook.
For your enjoyment I’ve included two recipes that use Nektar Honey Crystals. I ♥ the carrots. I cannot wait to make those. More recipes can be found on the Nekta Naturals website.
