My family have been members of Netflix for many years – long before streaming was even an option.
We enjoy watching movies together and loved being able to “rent” DVDs from Netflix to watch together. Once it became a streaming service we opted to only stream movies and no longer get the DVDs. We like being able to instantly watch movies with just the touch of a button.
We enjoy watching Netflix when the weather is bad (snow, rain…) and we can’t do anything outside. We also enjoy watching Netflix when our favorite shows are on hiatus so that we are not stuck watching repeat after repeat. Netflix is also our “go-to” choice for Family Movie Night.
Netflix is so much more than just movies. Netflix is a great way to catch up on your favorite television series, or relive your favorite episodes. I’ve recently started to watch the series Zoo on Netflix. I wanted to watch it when it was on TV but it coincided with another show we watched. Now I am able to watch Zoo and catch up on all that I missed.
We know several families that ONLY have Netflix. They don’t have cable or satellite because they find it more cost effective just to have Netflix. We would probably do that too but my husband loves to watch sports and I can’t give up seeing new episodes of my favorite shows – The Walking Dead, The Middle and Chicago Fire. You can catch previous seasons of The Walking Dead on Netflix.
Did you know that Netflix is home to a plethora of original series available no where else except on Netflix. Some you might have heard of include Orange is the New Black, Grace & Frankie, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (I reviewed this series last year), House of Cards and Bloodlines.
Other original Netflix series include Care Bears & Cousins, Popples, Jessica Jones, Master of None and Wet Hot American Summer.
Two new Netflix original series have been in the news a lot lately.
Fuller House is a “re-boot” of the popular series Full House. The original cast returns to the new series (except Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen). Fuller House debuts in February 2016.
Making of a Murderer has also been in the news a lot lately. It’s a documentary-series. This Netflix original has resulted in thousands of people petitioning (even to the president!) to get a man out of prison. I have not seen this series yet but I fully intend on watching it.
There are several new, original series coming to Netflix in 2016 as well.
- The Get Down
- The Crown
- Marseille
- Marvel’s Luke Cage
- Frontier
- Lady Dynamite
- The OA
- Love
- Gypsy
- The Ranch
I am looking forward to Love because it’s from Judd Apatow. It doesn’t air until February but it’s already been picked up for a second season. That tells me it must be pretty good.
I’m also looking forward to seeing The Ranch because it reunites Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson – both from the hit series That 70’s Show. In the ranch they play brothers. This should be interesting. The series also stars Sam Elliot, Debra Winger and Elisha Cuthbert.
In addition to exclusive series, Netflix also has original movies including Beast and the upcoming sequel to the popular movie, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon called Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Green Legend.
Not bad for something that starts with a plan under $10/month.
Basic $8 (1 screen), $10 Standard (2 screens) and $12 (4 screens HD & Ultra HD).
The term “screen” refers to the number of screens/devices allowed to stream Netflix at the same time. With the 2 screen option that means you could be streaming Netflix on your television and your child can be streaming it on the iPad or their T.V. (or vice versa).

Do you have Netflix? If you don’t have Netflix, would you be interested in it? Why or why not? Feel free to comment. I always love to hear from readers.
