Now playing in select theaters across the country, digital and On Demand, is the drama film, On the Line.
On the Line stars Mel Gibson, William Moseley, Alia Seror-O’Neill, Paul Spera, Nadia Farés, Enrique Arce and Kevin Dillon.
Radio DJ Elvis Cooney (Gibson) is a late night “shock jock” at a radio station. He’s a bit of a loud mouth, and knows how to use his words to sway any situation for the most part. He kind of comes off as a jerk (in my opinion).
This night, Elvis gets an on air call from a guy named “Gary.” Gary is clearly upset over something that Elvis supposedly did that “ruined his life.” He has to do with an former co-worker, that Elvis really doesn’t recall.
Gary is going to make sure that Elvis remembers everything. To do so, he’s got Elvis’ wife and daughter, whom he’s holding hostage. Elvis has no choice to not only take Gary seriously, but he’s also at the mercy of whatever it is that Gary wants him (Elvis) to say or do.
Elvis is literally stuck in the radio booth at the mercy of a madman. How will he rescue his wife and daughter? To find out, check out On the Line, now playing at a theater near you, On Demand and digital.
I’ve never been a big Mel Gibson fan. My husband is (he loves all the Lethal Weapon movies). He can act, but for some reason he’s never really been my “cup of tea,” so to speak.
There is no denying that Gibson did a great job portraying his role of Elvis. He’s a strong actor and can hold a movie on his own. That’s good because the other characters in this film are kind of “meh,” for lack of a better description. I don’t think they are nearly as strong of actors as Gibson is. Kevin Dillion is a good actor, but sadly he is barely seen in this film. He has a very minor role.
I love the idea of this film (it’s premise). It’s unique, which is something that films are lacking these days. It seems like most films are so predictable because they have basically been done before. To give you a good example, Lindsay Lohan has a new movie coming out called Falling for Christmas, which is basically the film Overboard (Goldie Hawn, Kurt Russel) but in a Christmas/winter setting (not to mention Overboard was already re-done with Anna Farris not to long ago).
This is exactly my point – there are hardly any original ideas anymore. This film is an original idea, which was nice to see for a change. My only problem is that towards the end, things seem to go a bit haywire and the whole vibe of the film is different. It’s hard to explain. I just think I would have liked to have seen a better ending.
Overall I liked the film. It’s on the long end (almost an hour and forty five minutes). I think they could have tweaked it a bit to make it a little shorter. Sometimes making a film longer doesn’t necessarily make it better.
This film is rated “R” for not only content, but also violence and bad language.
Below is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
