I have mentioned it before on my site that I am a site director for a YMCA program. I work with children from 5-12 years old (K-6th grade).
I am always on the look out for fun toys and activities that the children can do alone, or with other children. Bonus points of the toy/activity can be enjoyed by children on various ages. It’s not always easy to find toys/activities that a 5 year old and a 10 year old can enjoy. I’m sure many people know what I mean.
In addition to toys that are fun, I always look for toys and activities that can have an educational aspect to them as well, but if I had to choose between fun or educational, I’ll always go with fun. The kids get enough education during the day.
In the past I reviewed toys from the brand Edx Education. Edx Education Toys are quality hands-on educational materials to develop learning through play, in the classroom and at home. They are a leader in the international education market, exporting to over 90 countries over the past 20 years!
Edx Education Toys;
- Encourage learning through play with Edx these STEM toys for kids of all ages.
- Great for sensory play, autism, fidget toys, ADHD, and others.
- Are winners of the Toy Association award, Mom’s Choice Award, and Good Housekeeping award.
I reviewed many months ago the brand’s Linking Cubes and My Gears Transport Set. I brought them into my program back in September, and here it is six months later, and my “work kids” still enjoy the toys. I also use the Linking Cubes to help some of the kids with their math.
If you are interested in reading my review of those toy toys, you can read that post here – Fun and Educational Toys from Edx.
I recently had the opportunity to try out another toy from the brand with my “work kids.” I received to review the brand’s Sensory Rainbow Pebbles. The toy is geared for children 18+ months. Now, I realize that my “work kids” are much older than that, however, they are still enjoying playing with the set, both as it’s intended, as well as however they choose to play with the set/pieces (they use their own creativity).
Here is some information about this set.
- BRIGHT AND TACTILE FOR MULTI-SENSORY LEARNING – These lightweight stacking stones have a warm, rubbery feel. Children love their 6 bright colors and odd shapes!
- SUITABLE FOR 18M+ – Safety tested for children aged 18m+, these pebbles come in 3 large sizes which are perfect for small hands to grasp.
- GREAT VALUE – 8 large, double-sided activity cards accompany the pebbles to help kids learn about shapes and colors.
- LEARN EARLY MATH SKILLS – Use these sorting pebbles to teach your toddler/child how to recognize and organize by shape, color and number.
- CONVENIENT STORAGE – The Junior Rainbow Pebbles Activity Set comes in a sturdy plastic case, making it an ideal manipulative to use in child care centers, schools and at home.
The “pebbles” are different shaped and colored “pebbles,” that are made out of some kind of lightweight material. They are not real pebbles. They are really smooth too (no rough spots or sharp areas).
One way children can play with these pebbles is with the large, laminated cards that come with the set. There are a variety of ways the pebbles can be used on these cards. Here are a few examples to give you an idea of what types of things you can do with the cards and pebbles.
The cards are double sided, so there are more than just the ones pictured. I just showed a few to give readers an idea of what the cards look like.
These cards are large too (about the size of the box).
The cards fit nicely in the box everything came in. In addition, the pebbles come in a plastic Ziplock type of bag. Should you need to replace it, any type of a Ziplock bag would work.
I would suggest keeping the pebbles in a bag to prevent them from rolling around in the box and/or getting misplaced.
I put this set out on one of the center tables. I let the kids play with it as they see fit. I see some of the children play with the cards, other children like to try and stack them, and I see some others using them to create their own shapes and designs. There is not just one way to use these rainbow pebbles – you can use them in different ways. I really like how “flexible” this toy is. Plus it’s educational because you can use them to teach adding and subtracting, as well as STEM principals (such as what sizes you can stack and how many).
Here are a few random photos from Amazon showing different ways you can use these colorful pebbles.
The Rainbow Pebble set is available on Amazon. There are also other Rainbow Pebble sets to chose from. You can check out the Rainbow Pebble “shop” on Amazon here (this is NOT an affiliate link).

What do you think about the Rainbow Pebbles? Do you think your child would enjoy something like this? Feel free to comment and share your thoughts. I always love to hear from readers.
