Are you a fan of the long running soap opera General Hospital? Did you know the series has been around for 51 years? General Hospital started back in 1963. The show has been around longer than I have!
I used to be totally obsessed with the show. I was totally hooked with the Luke & Laura story line. Then there was the Anna, Scorpio and Duke story line that also had me running home from the bus stop to catch what I could before the day’s episode was over.
I can’t forget Rick Springfield (Dr. Noah Drake) and John Stamos (Blackie Parrish). Swoooooooon! I had big time crushes on both of them.
Several weeks ago when I was out in Los Angeles I had the wonderful opportunity to visit the set of General Hospital. Although the story lines and many of the characters have changed over the years since the last time I watched the series, it was still amazing to visit the set of a show that meant so much to me when I was younger.
The wonderful people at the studio were kind enough to lay out on some tables props used on the show over the years. You’ll have to excuse my photos. I had just purchased a new camera and I was still trying to learn how to use it at the time and messed up with the focusing.
They even had a few racks of gorgeous ball gowns set up for us to look at. I was afraid to touch anything (I didn’t want to ruin or break anything) They were so pretty! The gowns were from the Nurses Ball Galas from over the years (as well as other events).
Port Charles will once again hold the iconic Nurses Ball gala, a fundraiser for HIV and AIDS awareness and research.
The first Nurses Ball Gala was held in 1994. It was co-chaired by Bobbie Jones (Jacklyn Zeman) and Lucy Coe (Lynn Herring).
The Nurses Ball Gala was an annual event in Port Charles from 1994 – 2001. Last year the series reintroduced the Nurses Ball Gala for the show’s 50th Anniversary.
General Hospital will be hosting another Nurses Ball Gala this year. It’s scheduled to take place (on the show) May 8th – May 13th (2014).
Several popular Port Charles residents will be noticeably absent from the Red Carpet and stuck at home watching the festivities on TV. Old and new loves will percolate while others find themselves in awkward situations. Amidst all the romantic drama, the never-dull Nurses Ball audience will be entertained with fun performances and sexy surprises.
It certainly sounds interesting. And since I work from home I am going to set my TV to the ABC Television Network to catch the ball. I’m excited to see what they wear. Their gowns are always so beautiful and stunning.
While we were checking out the gowns and props Finola Hughes popped in to say a quick hello. I was shocked to see here there. I wish I had my camera handy to snap a quick photo of her. It was surreal to see her standing before me. I was really into the Anna, Scorpio and Duke story line. To see her standing before me was awesome.
When the camera crew and actors on set that day had a little break from filming we were able to run up to the set to take a quick visit.
There was a set for the Jerome Gallery. I am not familar with that story line. I would assume that it’s some kind of an art gallery.
I was thrilled to see the set for the Port Charles Police Department. That was really cool! They really go all out dressing up the sets to make them look totally authentic, right down to the display on the computer screens.
Next to the Port Charles Police Station was the interior set for General Hospital (the hospital it’s self). That was really fun to see too since a lot of the series stories occur in the hospital.
The adorable Emme Rylan (Lulu Spencer Falconeri on the show) stopped by to have some fun with some bloggers. They pretended that one of the bloggers was giving birth to an alien baby. LOL!
Even actor William DeVry came to say hello to all of us and pose for a picture (William is lying on the floor in front of us). William plays the role of Julian Jerome on General Hospital.
We couldn’t stay too long on the set because they were about to start shooting scenes again. It’s a shame too because there was another interesting set on stage that I wanted to explore.
Before we headed out Emme Rylan took some of us to her dressing room to show us what a typical dressing room looked like. I took pictures but I can’t figure out what folder I saved them in.
Emme’s dressing room floor was covered in jewelry and jewelry making supplies. Emme loves to make jewelry and sells them on Etsy (Emme by Emme Rylan). She makes beautiful jewelry during her down time in between her time on set (I love her OM Copper Wrap Bracelet!).
It was really fun to visit the set of General Hospital. It brought back a lot of memories for me. Since visiting the set I have made it a point to try and catch the show whenever I can. I just wish I was familiar with the current story lines.
General Hospital airs on ABC Monday through Friday (2:00 – 3:00 PM EST). Check your local TV Guide for channel and show time in your area.
