I am a big fan of the show Shaun the Sheep. I realize that most people would consider it a “kiddie show”, but my husband and I laugh hysterically at it. I would say that Shaun the Sheep is great for all ages.
Shaun the Sheep is series about a sheep name Shaun and his friends – the Flock, the Pigs, a dog name Bitzer – who live on a farm owned by “the Farmer”. The series is from the creative minds behind Wallace & Gromit. This series is done with claymation. The characters are all made out of clay and are film in stop motion (they move the character, shoot, stop, move the character again and so forth). Other films done this very same way include James and the Giant Peach, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Chicken Run and the classic Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. And of course I can’t forget Wallace and Gromit too!
There are no spoken words in the show. Just a bunch of grunts and “baaaas”. 🙂
A new Shaun the Sheep DVD is coming out on April 17, 2012 called Shaun the Sheep: Shear Madness. The DVD features seven wacky and woolly adventures.
– Pig Trouble: When Blitzer is injured the Farmer hands over his “to do” list to the pigs. When the Farmer heads out for the day the pigs take over the farm. Shaun, Blizter and the flock have to work together to make the Farmer see that the pigs are out of control.
– Sheepless Nights: When a leaky roof makes a mess of the barn the flock is forced to share the pen with the pigs. Let’s just say the pigs are NOT happy about it.
– Party Animals: Blitzer accidentally destroys Farmer’s party invitations and it’s up to the flock to turn themselves into party guests so that Blitzer doesn’t get in trouble. Thank goodness it’s a costume party.
– Cat Got Your Brain: Aliens zap Shaun and the mean farm cat into their space ship and accidentally switch their brains into each other’s bodies, causing Shaun to act like the cat and the cat to act like Shaun.
– Two’s Company: A pretty female sheep ends up in the farm by accident (she fell off a truck). Shaun is smitten with her and every time he tries to get some alone time with her the entire flock is there.
– What’s Up Dog: Shaun and the flock hop into a hot air balloon that was on Farmer’s property and it takes off. Blitzer has to race around town to get them before it’s too late and Farmer realizes that the balloon is missing.
– Draw the Line: A town employee painting lines on the road loses his map and takes off to get it, leaving behind the machine that paints the lines. You an only imagine what happens when the sheep get a hold of the line making machine.
The DVD also features a Sing-along-with-Shaun bonus feature and and adorable piece called Timmy’s Tune #2 (Timmy is the cutest baby sheep you have ever seen). The sing along is the Shaun the Sheep theme song.
I enjoyed the entire DVD, as well as my family. It’s hard not to be entertained by Shaun the Sheep. The show is so funny.
The DVD runs for around 45 minutes. It will be available for purchase where ever DVDs are sold on April 17, 2012.
