I have mentioned many times on my blog that we live on a condo (aka – shoe box). I grew up in a house and dream of the day we can move from here and have a house again.
I’m not a fan of condo living. Although I do like my neighbors I just don’t like having people living under me, across from me, diagonal fro me and next to me. I can literally hear my next door neighbor open and close his hallway closet every time he does it. The walls are so thin.
Another thing I don’t like is that we have no say in certain matters. We have a condo board and they decide what goes on around the complex.
One thing I don’t like is the placement of our dumpster. While I do enjoy the convenience of the dumpster being close by (other residents have to lug their garbage long distances to get to the dumpster), I don’t like that the dumpster is below our balcony – not directly but close enough that flies sometimes make their way into our home.
We keep our balcony door open during the day so that our pets can move freely in and out. They enjoy siting out on our balcony and taking in the fresh air and sunshine. The only problem is that bugs can get inside. Most recently it was a giant moth. My cats went crazy chasing it around our home. Thankfully I was able to shoo him outside.
Sometimes people toss out stuff in the dumpster that smells horrible. That scent attracts those pesky flies. For some reason they make their way to our condo unit. I can only assume they are searching for the rotting scent and figure it’s coming from our place. Of course it’s not – they are just a bit off on their destination. They are looking for the dumpster – not my living room.
I as sent a nifty little contraption to help keep the flies from coming inside my home looking for their next meal. Instead it attracts the flies to the trap and it captures them.
The product is called Stinger No Touch Fly Trap.
Back in they day when I was young they had fly traps that hung from the ceiling. They were made out of an awful sticky tape that got on everything – even my hair! Not only that they are disgusting to look at. I would never use them in my home, especially with cats. They might see it as a toy and jump at it. I wouldn’t want to try and peel that off one of my cats.
The Stinger No Touch Fly Trap is mess free and much nicer to look at then other fly/insect traps. Its actually decorative looking.
The trap creates a 20 foot bug-free radius.
The trap is easy to set up and use. Simply activate the powder “attractant” with water to activate it and then set the trap a good distance away. The attractant will attract the flies and other pesky insects inside where they will get trapped inside. There is nothing more you need to do except replace the plastic bag inside with a refill bag (available for purchase).

As far as being effective the Stinger No Touch Fly Trap does do a good job attracting the flies. The only problem I had with it was the smell. The attractant doesn’t smell too good. This would be fine if we had a backyard we could hang this away from where we sit or do outdoor activities. We don’t have that option with our condo. Our balcony is 6′ x 12′ in size. We hung it in the corner on the side of the balcony where we don’t sit (due to the satellite dish being in the way). That helped but we could still get a whiff of the scent from time to time. The device was only about 6′ from us at any given time, give or take. I think it needs to be put a bit further away.
The Stinger No Touch Fly Trap does work. I think it’s a great product to keep those nasty flies from ruining your outdoor fun. If I had a house and a yard I would certainly use it during the warm weather months. It’s just not good for condo living unless you have a large outdoor space.

You can purchase the product on the Stinger website as well as places like Walmart.
