Some notable kid-friendly movies include Despicable Me, Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty, Ramona and Beezus, The Last Airbender, Nanny McPhee Returns and of course The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
Why am I so excited to see The Sorcerer’s Apprentice you might ask? The Sorcerer’s Apprentice has a scene in it based upon one of the most classic Disney movies of all time, Fantasia.
When I was a young girl my Mom took me to see Fantasia. I was in total awe of the movie. To hear my Mom talk about it I had eyes as big as saucers and my jaw to the ground the entire time. Fantasia introduced me to classical music. I think my love of classical music comes from my love of the movie.
One of my most favorite scenes was when Mickey was the Sorcerer and the buckets became out of control and started flooding the place. Now with the new movie, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, I get to see that same scene come alive again, but this time with real people.
Check out this great clip from The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, the Coolest Clip Ever! The filmmakers share how it all began – with an 8 minute scene of classic animation – and take us on the journey of how the film got made and the inspiration of Fantasia. If you are fan of Fantasia or Disney you will really find this clip fascinating.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is put out by Walt Disney Studios and was produced and directed by the powerhouse team of Jerry Bruckheimer and Jon Turteltaub. These men are responsible for the successful, action packed franchise, National Treasure. I love both of those films. Nicolas Cage starred in those movies too.
Nicolas Cage and Jerry Bruckheimer have also collaborated in other hit films including Con Air (which I have seen a hundred times), The Rock, Gone in 60 Seconds, G-Force (cute movie) and of course the National Treasure movies (National Treasure and National Treasure: Book of Secrets).
Nicolas Cage stars as Balthazar Blake, a master sorcerer in modern-day Manhattan trying to defend the city from his arch-nemesis, Maxim Horvath (Alfred Molina). Balthazar can’t do it alone, so he recruits Dave Stutler (Jay Baruchel), a seemingly average guy who demonstrates hidden potential, as his reluctant protégé. The sorcerer gives his unwilling accomplice a crash course in the art and science of magic, and together, these unlikely partners work to stop the forces of darkness. It will take all the courage Dave can muster to survive his training, save the city and get the girl as he becomes the Sorcerer’s Apprentice.
Here is a trailer for the movie. Check out the awesome special effects!
