Many kids are whole-heartedly into sports. We know plenty of kids my children’s ages who are totally into sports and play sports year round, both in and out of school.
I think it’s important for children to get into some kind of sport. Not only is it a great way for children to make friends, learn about teamwork and build their confidence and self esteem, it’s also a great way to get some exercise into their day. Sadly the only form of exercise most kids get is pressing buttons on their Wii remote control.
Some young sportsmen and sportswomen go above and beyond just playing sports. They also take pride in accomplishing things off the field or court, such as in the classroom or their community.
Sports Illustrated Kids is looking for nomination for 2013 SportsKid of the Year.
The winner of the “SKOTY” (SportsKid Of The Year) award will have the distinct honor of appearing on the cover of the December (2013) issue of Sports Illustrated Kids. The winner will also receive a very special SportsKid of the year jack and a trip to New York City to accept their award during the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year ceremony.
Last year’s winners SKOTY winners – Conner and Cayden Long – made a video that went viral across the internet. The video gained over a million views in a matter of days and even gained national media coverage. Wow! That is amazing!
Check out the Long brother’s inspirational story.
These boys are truly amazing. Their story touched my heart and made it smile. Their parents must be incredibly proud of their sons. 🙂
Their cover is shown at the top of this post.
If your or grandchild deserves to be nominated, or if you know of a child in your school or community who deserves a nomination, visit www.SIKids.com/SKOTY to nominate them. You can also go directly to the SKOTY 2013 Nomination Form.
Nominees much be between the ages of 7 to 15. They must also demonstrate sportsmanship through their accomplishments on the field/court, in their classrooms and in their communities.
