I consider myself very lucky that no one in my family suffers from any severe allergies. We do have a cat with severe asthma, but at least we don’t have to avoid certain kinds of foods.
Food allergies were always a concern of mine when my kids were younger and I was one of the class parents. There were a few times where one or more of the students had food allergies. It made bringing in treats for the class harder because I was afraid to bring in something that could trigger an allergic reaction. Take nut allergies for example. Even if the product doesn’t contain nuts it could have been manufactured on equipment that also made a product that contained nuts. This is why I tried to stick with fruits and vegetables rather than cakes, cookies and candy.
Even thought only .09% of the U.S. population has a peanut or tree nut allergy, a single individual with these allergies can affect so many people. I honestly would have thought that amount would have been higher. I was shocked that it was only .09%.
A survey was conducted with moms and 1 in 3 said that nut allergies influenced their food purchase decisions. Other interesting insights also came from the survey.
- 67% take nut allergies into account when deciding which snacks to provide for children’s events.
- More than half of moms have received warnings or guidelines from their child’s school regarding nut allergies.
- 1 in 4 were stopped from providing snacks at an event due to nut allergies.
- 17% have been reluctant to provide snacks for an event in the past due to concerns over nut allergies.
It seems like a lot of the moms that took part in the survey think a lot like I do when it comes to nut allergies.
Thankfully more and more companies are taking things like nut allergies into consideration. There are even companies that make products specially with allergies in mind. Take for example Rich’s Product Corporation. They represent a lot of brands including Carvel, Farm Rich and SeaPak. They also have a cookie line called Our Specialty. Our Specialty makes Nut-Free Frosted Sugar Cookies for different occasions, seasons, holidays and even just to enjoy any day of the year.
Frosted cookies are so “in” these days. I am seeing them offered at parties and events more and more. It’s no wonder – they are delicious!
You may have even seen (or been served) Our Specialty Frosted Cookies.
The cookies are available in 10 count packages or 19 count platters. They come in a variety of frosting and sprinkle colors.
If you are planning on hosting, or attending, a Fourth of July party, Our Specialty has festive colored cookies you might enjoy. I’m sure your guests would love them.
I was sent the Fourth of July decorated cookies to review with my family.
I have had frosted cookies in the past where the frosting is a bit hard. It’s more like a shell than frosting. The frosting on these cookies were so soft and fresh that I messed up the frosting on the cookie that I photographed. I grabbed it thinking the frosting might have been a bit hard. It was not. It was super soft – as if I just frosted them myself.
This is why the frosting looks smudgy in the photo. I did that.
The cookies themselves are very soft and fresh tasting. They practically melt in your mouth.
I made sure to snap some photos before my kids came home. I knew they would dive into them. Both of my kids loved them. I had to limit them to two cookies each otherwise they would have eaten half the platter.
I like that these cookies taste like someone just made them. They don’t have a stale taste or texture or taste like they have been sitting a store shelf for weeks.
I love that they are available to match the holidays and seasons. Plus they are nut free making them ideal treats for classrooms.
Our Specialty makes other products including other cookies (not nut-free).
