I’m a sucker for feel good, wholesome, family movies. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good horror movie too. It’s just nice to watch a movie with a happy ending that leaves you with that “warm fuzzy’ feeling.
New to DVD is a movie called The Bouquet. The tag line is “Every dream deserves a chance to grow”. It stars Kristy Swanson, Danny Glover, Alberta Mayne, Michael Shanks and Nicola Cavendish.
The Bouquet is the story of a family who have become disconnected with one another, most especially Terri (Swanson). Terri has kept her distance from her family by living in New York City and focusing on her career. She’s simply too busy to visit her parents who run a small florist business.
Terri’s parents, Bonnie (Cavendish) and Cecil, are getting up in years. Bonnie has two great loves in her life – her family and flowers. Her husband, Cecil, recognizes this and does whatever he can to make sure his wife is happy.
Terri’s younger sister, Mandy, lives near her parents and visits them as often as she can. She is also busy with her life, but at least she makes time for her family.
Unbeknown to Terri’s family she loses her job (downsized). She doesn’t want them to know she she tries desperately to find another job. Unfortunately tragedy strikes and Terri’s if forced to return home. Her father has passed away from a heart attack. Upon seeing his grave Terri breaks down and sobs uncontrollably because she regrets not giving her family more of her time. Sadly it’s a little bit too late.
The ladies soon learn that their father took out loans to help keep their flower business afloat. He never told him wife that the business wasn’t doing well. He knew how much it meant to her and he wanted to do what he could to keep it going.
Determined to help her mother out Terri decides to stay in town for a bit to see if she can turn the business around and start making a profit again before her mother loses everything.
Terri and her sister have the hardest time re-conneting with one another. They have always been competitive with one another. Mandy also feels like she’s been overshadowed by Terri all her life.
Can this family come together, mend the ties that bind them together and make the business a success again, or will circumstances prevent them from making Bonnie’s Bouquets the successful business it once was? To find out you need to pick up a copy of The Bouquet, available where most movies are sold. I happened to find it on Amazon (DVD and instant streaming) and Barnes & Noble.
There is one bonus feature on the DVD and that is the Making of The Bouquet. It’s basically interviews with the cast, discussing their roles in the film and their relationship with the other cast members. It’s not very long. Only several minutes.
Also included is the film’s trailer which you can view here (below). If you are reading this via e-mail you can find the trailer here, http://bit.ly/WLZ6a0.
Overall I liked the film. It’s very much a family friendly film. There is no violence, foul language or nudity. I doubt little ones will understand the movie, but ‘tweens and older will.
This is a sweet story. A little bit predictable at times, but still entertaining.
I think the overall theme of the movie might appeal to many viewers. I’m sure many people have some how got disconnected from the important people in their lives. It happens, even if we don’t plan it that way.
The movie also highlights siblings and rivalry and how you can work through your differences, especially for the good of the family. After all, family is what is most important.
This is a nice film to curl up on your couch with, snuggled under a cozy blanket and sipping some hot tea. Maybe you can even enjoy it with your mom, sister or best friend.
Look for The Bouquet where ever DVDs are sold.
