Not too long ago I attend an event for Hellmann’s 100th Anniversary in New York City. To mark the event, Hellmann’s, along with Feeding America, created the world’s longest picnic table. It beat out the previous record holder.
I had a fun time at the event but I think the thing that stands out the most is that I was there to not only witness, but also to participate in a world record breaking event.
Here are some photos from the event.
You can read more about it here – Happy 100th Birthday Hellmann’s! Celebrate with a $100 gift card giveaway – 5 Winners! (ends 10/6/13) #Hellmanns100. PLEASE NOTE – the giveaway in that post is OVER.
Just recently the 2014 edition of the Guinness World Records 2014 book came out. Sadly the World’s Longest Picnic Table was not included. I’ll look forward to seeing it in next year’s book. The record was just broken last month and I’m sure the books were ready to print before then.
The book has come along way since I was a kid. Back then it was more so text with just a few images. The new books are jam packed with images which makes me appreciate the records more. I’m a visual person. I like to be able to see things to understand and appreciate them.
I’m always amazed at the records in the book. Of course it contains things like world’s tallest person, world’s shortest person, world’s oldest person and world’s heaviest person. Those are probably the ones people think of the most. What most people don’t think of are the world’s longest finger nails (the female record holder had nails over 28 FEET long!), most cell phones (China), longest driven journey (413,653 miles in a Toyota Land Cruiser by Eil and Liliana Schmid of Switzerland) and the longest metal coil passed through the nose and mouth (just shy of 12 feet by Andrew Stanton).
There are some truly bizarre entries in the book as well as some really fascinating ones.
The Guinness World Records also has a special app created just for the new book. The new app fun photo app turns users into record holders and more.
Here is a brief video about the FREE app.
I have an iPhone. I downloaded the app (it took a long time for it to download). Sadly I couldn’t get it to work. I think I am doing something wrong. I am going to have to see if my kids can show me how to use it properly. I can be “technologically challenged” sometimes. LOL!
The app is available at iTunes and Google Play for FREE.
Guinness World Records is also having a contest on their official website where you can win a signed copy of the book AND an iPad Mini. Visit www.GuinnessWorldRecords.com for more information about the contest and the book. You can also play a trivia game and even purchase the book from the website. Also, check out the video section. Make sure to watch the video for Colonel Meow – the cat with the world’s longest fur. Awww…he’s cute! Even cuter is the video for the world’s tiniest dog.
You can also check out Guinness World Records on Facebook and Twitter.

My son has this on his Christmas list – cool book. I used to get them when I was younger.
The Hellmanns event looks like it would have been fun, love how long the picnic table was! 🙂
Longest metal coil passing through the nose and mouth? WHY??? People do some CRAZY things to get into that book.
I loved this book growing up and can’t believe its still a top seller. Some of the records are crazy difficult, while others are just crazy. I have watched somelspecials that aired on TLC I think and it showed the tallest and shortest people in the world and steps taken to validate their placement in the book for that year
these are always so neat. look forward to reading this!
My son loves these books. His favorite record is most expensive sundae which is somewhere in New York. lol
I was there sitting right next to you, it was a fun day!
