Now available on DVD and digital, is the fun, animated feature length film, Trick or Treat Scooby Doo!. The movie will also be available on Cartoon Network and HBO Max during this year’s annual Scoobtober celebration.
Trick or Treat Scooby-Doo! features the familiar voice talents of Frank Welker as Scooby-Doo/Fred Jones, Grey DeLisle as Daphne Blake, Matthew Lillard as Shaggy Rogers and Kate Micucci as Velma Dinkley. Cecilia Aranovich (Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog) serves as producer and director from a script written by Mike Ryan (Straight Outta Nowhere: Scooby-Doo! Meets Courage the Cowardly Dog). Sam Register (Looney Tunes Cartoons) serves as executive producer.
Normally I do my own film synopsis, but I feel like the official synopsis is much better than what I could describe.
Mystery Inc. has cracked the case to top all cases! They’ve tracked down Coco Diablo, the head of the notorious costume crime syndicate that colludes The Black Knight, Space Kook and the Ghost Diver. With Coco and her kitty in prison, Mystery Inc. thinks that they can finally enjoy a break. Wrong! Suddenly, menacing doppelgänger ghosts of the Scooby crew and favorite classic foes show up in Coolsville to threaten Halloween. Now it’s up to the meddling kids – and their unlikely new partner Coco – to unmask the latest scoundrel and save Halloween! For Shaggy and Scooby-Doo, with trick-or-treating on the line – this time it’s personal!
First and foremost, I love how the look and feel of this film is reminiscent of the Scooby Doo cartoon series I used to watch when I was a kid. I have seen plenty of Scooby Doo cartoons and films over the years. Sometimes they appear more “modernized” (if that makes sense?). This film definitely gave me more “retro” vibes of the ORIGINAL Scooby Doo cartoons.
The only issue I have (sort of) is that Daphne looks a bit “off.” There is something about her that looks different, but I can’t put my finger on it.
Overall I really liked the film. I think the entire storyline was really good, as well as the colorful assortment of characters, from the “ghouls” to the people of Coolsville. The storyline flowed nicely too. I’m glad about that because this film has a run time of 72 minutes, and the entire story flowed nicely from start to finish.
There is some bonus content for this film.
BONUS EPISODES
- El Bandito,
- Headless Horseman of Halloween
- To Switch a Witch
I have not had the opportunity to watch the bonus episodes (yet). I’m looking forward to watching them to get me and my family in the Halloween spirit (no pun intended).
There is a storyline in this film that might “bother” some people (not met). Velma has a major crush on Coco Diablo, who is also a female. I didn’t mind the storyline at all, but some people might take issue with it.
I love how this film stays true to Shaggy and Scooby. All they wanted to do in this film is go trick-or-treating and get a lot of candy (something they later regret). That is exactly something they would do.
The team also get a new “ride.” I wonder if they are going to keep that for future movies, or return to their original (classic) van?
I really enjoyed this film. I own a DVD copy of it and I plan on keeping it in our family’s movie collection so we can watch it next Halloween too.
Below is the film’s trailer for your enjoyment.
