The Boxtrolls arrives in theaters TOMORROW (Friday, September 26, 2014).
If you have not heard of the film, or seen the trailers on TV, here is a brief synopsis of this fun, family film.
A family event movie from the creators of “Coraline” and “ParaNorman” that introduces audiences to a new breed of family – The Boxtrolls, a community of quirky, mischievous creatures who have lovingly raised an orphaned human boy named Eggs (voiced by Isaac Hempstead-Wright) in the amazing cavernous home they’ve built beneath the streets of Cheesebridge. When the town’s villain, Archibald Snatcher (Academy Award winner Ben Kingsley), comes up with a plot to get rid of the Boxtrolls, Eggs decides to venture above ground, “into the light,” where he meets and teams up with fabulously feisty Winnifred (Elle Fanning). Together, they devise a daring plan to save Eggs’ family.
If you have seen the trailer I’m sure you’ve noticed that the Boxtrolls don’t speak English. In fact they speak their very own language.
I think it would be fun to speak your very own language – one that only you and a few special people can understand. As a child I remember trying to invent my own language. I wouldn’t be surprised if many children did that.
The Boxtroll language is not just some random gibberish that the film makers threw into the film. They gave it a lot of thought. They wanted to come up with the perfect language for the misunderstood underground dwellers.
Check out this brief featurette called Troll of Your Tongue to learn how film makers came up with the Boxtroll’s unique language.
The film looks really cute and I am looking forward to seeing it with my family.
