Biologically speaking I have two children. However there are some times that I will tell people that I have THREE children because I sometimes feel like I’m married to a big kid. Not only does he love cartoons and holiday shows (more so then the kids!) but he also loves to play with toys and even has a box filled with Hot Wheels cars. They are not collectibles or anything like that. They are just cars that he came across and liked so he bought them.
When it comes to purchasing gifts for our daughter usually its me who buys her gifts. When it comes to our son my husband is a bit too excited to buy his gifts because he enjoys picking up something for himself too.
We have these super cool Mattel Hot Wheels Custom Motors sets and I’m not exaggerating when I say my husband and our son go crazy over them.
Custom Motors are Hot Wheels cars that come with various different pieces that allow you to mix and match and come up with your own design. I have seen similar cars on a much larger scale. It would seem that my son prefers the smaller ones.
I was smart this time and took the pictures BEFORE opening up the box. There are so many pieces that I had a feeling I wasn’t going to be able to track them all down for another group shot. To make matters worst I have NO CLUE which car is which is his toy box. Our son’s toy box is over flowing in Hot Wheels and similar sized cars and many others. They all look the same to me. LOL!
Mattel Hot Wheels Custom Motors come with a car or truck “base” which can be added to with snap on pieces. You can change the look of your vehicle any time you want just by adding a piece or removing a piece.
I’m sorry I don’t have pictures of one of the designs.
As luck would have it we have a car and a truck. Our son prefers the car and my son loves to play around with the truck.
Each set came with a lot of pieces. The car came with 15 pieces/accessories and the truck came with a whopping 25 pieces/accessories.
I am glad that the pieces simply snap on and off. I know some toys use small tools to add/remove parts. Sometimes things like that frustrate our son. I prefer simple toys that he can do easily. I have never heard a complaint out of him about not being able to do something.
I think he spends more time designing the car (or truck) then he does actually playing with it.
I couldn’t tell you what half the pieces were but I do know that both sets came with huge tires that turned the truck into a “Monster” truck. I’m not sure what the terminology is for a car with huge tires. Would that be a “Monster Car?”
For Christmas we’re going to get our son the Tractor Trailer set that works with the Custom Motors. It looks really cool and we know he’ll have a blast with it.
Check out this commercial. You’ll see the truck I am referring to.
Thankfully my son doesn’t read my blog. I wouldn’t want him to know what he’s going to get for Christmas.
We have the Baja Truck and Rally Car sets. I’m trying to find an Army Custom Motors set but I couldn’t find it at our local Toys R Us. I’d like to get my husband the Viper set, as a joke.
The sets are sold at an affordable price. I know Amazon had some sets for $7.99 and the larger sets for $14.99. That is not bad at all. Especially considering the hours of play you can get from one set.
My only compliant (sort of) is that not all sets are available in all stores. You’ll have to order online to get the sets you want or shop around a few different stores. Then again I might be having a hard time finding the sets I want because everyone is buying them up to give as gifts this year.
If you are looking for a fun gift to get a car lover, both young and old, you should check out the cool Mattel Hot Wheels Custom Car sets. They would make an ideal holiday gift.
