Valentines Day is just a few days away. Have you found the perfect gift for that someone special in your life? I know that some people feel the need to spend a small fortune on a Valentine’s Day gift. That is great if you have the money. Personally I appreciate gifts from the heart and made by hand more so then anything you can buy at your local mall.
When it comes to Valentines Day my husband and I do little things for each other like write a poem, serve breakfast in bed, or just take a stroll down by the river (weather permitting). Occasionally I find a cute craft idea and end up making him a gift. One year I wrote down 101 things that I love about my husband. I put one thing on a separate piece of paper then folded them in half. Then I took a coffee can and decorated it with a lot of hearts and smiley faces. Next I filled the can with all the reasons why I love my husband. Whenever my husband wanted to know a reason all he had to do was remove one of the papers from the can. He still has the can and reasons too. I made that for him about 7 or 8 years ago.
Valentines Day crafts are also a lot of fun to do with your children or grandchildren. In the past I had my kids make little gifts to hand out to their classmates instead of the traditional Valentines Day cards. One year I had my daughter hand out candy with silly expressions attached to them like a pack of gum with a hang tag that “I’m stuck on you – Happy Valentines Day” or a roll of Sweetarts with the message “You’re such a sweetart“. LOL! You get the idea.
If you are in need of a little inspiration for Valentines Day crafts you should check out the seasonal web page for Hershey’s. Each major holiday Hershey’s creates a special page filled with holiday theme crafts and recipes. If you are a teacher or work with large groups of children these ideas would also work out well for you. Most are quick, easy and inexpensive to make.
One of my favorite crafts on the Hershey’s website are the Love Bugs made out of Hershey’s candies, pipe cleaners and a few other crafts odds and ends that you have lying around.
I tried to make the Kiss Bouquet a few years ago. Mine didn’t turn out nearly as lovely as the one on the Hershey’s website. I couldn’t get the plastic wrap to wrap the rigth away around the Kisses. If you do end up making this I would love to know what the trick is to getting the plastic wrap to look right.
I adore these little Love Bug Cups. I am sure you can make them on a larger scale and use them as “mailboxes” for the Valentines that the kids get from their classmates. The directions call for small plastic cups but I think using a coffee can would work fine too.
Hershey’s doesn’t only have a lot of fun Valentines Day craft ideas but they also have delicious recipes that are sure to make Valentines Day extra sweet and special. Just check out the mini Black Forest Cheesecakes. Mmm… need I say more? LOL!
They even have a recipe for Chocolate Cheesecake.
Why not surprise your special someone with a box of handmade chocolate truffles. These not only look good but they require very few ingredients and are super easy to make. Why spend a small fortune on a box of store bought truffles when you can make them yourself for a fraction of the cost?
Chocolate covered Strawberries are a romantic treat to share on Valentines Day. You can feed one to your significant other and have them feed you one too. There is no telling what that might lead to. LOL!
Hershey’s also offers Valentines Day theme products which are great to give out to classmates, co-workers or your family.
My family received a package of Valentines Day Kit Kats and Jolly Rancher Lollipops. Normally when I do a review of Hershey’s products I take my own photos. That is not the case this time around. I usually take pictures as soon as I receive the candy because I know that it will quickly disappear. This time around I neglected to do so. Having sick kids at home tend to turn your mind to mush. Ha Ha.
We DID have a package of Hershey’s Valentines Kit Kats. They were ideal snack size packages that had two white hearts on them with a place to write “To” and “From”. You could easily have your child hand those out in lieu of paper Valentines Day cards. Just be sure that it’s OK with your child’s teacher just in case there is a child who might be allergic.
There are 30 individually wrapped Kit Kat in the bag. That should be enough for a regular size classroom.
We also received a package of Valentines Jolly Rancher lollipops. These also have spaces on them where you can write “To” and “From”. My kids LOVE these. Personally they are too sweet for my taste. I rather have chocolate.
The Jolly Rancher lollipops come in four flavors: Cherry, Pink Lemonade, Apple and Watermelon. There are 20 lollipops in the bag.
Hershey’s has other Valentines Day products including giant Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Hearts, boxes of Hershey’s Kiss and Hugs, Hershey’s Miniatures and more. Most of these candies can be found at your local grocery store, drug store or places like Walmart or Target.
