Do you remember way back when you took photos with a camera that used film? I sure do (I’m showing my age).
Back in the day when you wanted to share photos with family and friends, or preserve special family memories, you took photos with your camera. Once the film was used up you took it to a photo shop to have them printed out for you. I remember when it would take days to get the photos back. These days you can have them done on the spot.
After you received your photos you would organize them nicely in photo albums. Some people, like my husband, organized the photos chronologically. That way we knew exactly which photo album a specific photo or series of photos were.
I used to think he was a little nuts being so organized like that but he’s proven time and time again that his system is perfect. These days when we think back to a specific photo (usually of our kids) we know exactly what album to go to (we have about 20+ albums).
These days most people don’t print out photos. Instead they prefer to keep their previous photos on their smartphones, tablets or computers. While I do appreciate actual tangible photos, having the ability to carry my precious photos with me where ever I go is great too.
I have found that having a large quantity of photos on your device can make it difficult to pin point the exact photo you are looking for. Often you have to scroll through dozens, if not hundreds, of photos to find a specific one. Not only is that time consuming it’s also frustrating too.
You could make a special album for certain photos, but who wants dozens of folders on their device? I don’t.
What if there was a way to find specific photos on your device quickly and easily? There is a way! It’s a free application called PicJoy. PicJoy is a new app that automatically organizes all of your photos.
Check out this cute and funny video about just how much people dread organizing their photos.
Cute! I love the muscular guy.
PicJoy automatically organizes your photos in variety of ways making it super easy to find the photo (or photos) you are looking for.
You can edit your photos and give them “Title” which aids in the search for that specific photo (or a series of photo). You can also add a story and explain the background behind the photo. I think it’s nice to add a bit of a story to each photo. I think that is a great way to personalize them.
PicJoy also gives you the ability to share your pictures with family and friends via email, text or social media.
Let me give you an example. Our daughter recently graduated from high school. I have a bunch of photos from that day on my phone. I titled them all “Graduation,” and on a few of them I wrote a story about who was in the photos, where it was taken and so forth.
In the above screen shot from my phone you can see one of the graduation photos as seen in PicJoy. The areas in black are where I needed to cover up for security reasons (I rather people NOT know my daughter’s name, her boyfriend’s name or their high school). The word “Graduation” is the photos title and the black box underneath is covering up the little story I added to that photo (her boyfriend’s name, the date, where they were when the photo was taken…).
If I want to share this photo (or any photo) I just have to pull up the menu to select where I want to send the photo.
Below is a screen shot to show you how PicJoy also sorts photos by date. I had to cover up (and blur out) certain photos to protect people’s identities.
You can also see some of the app’s settings (photos, stories, settings…). You can also do a search for specific photos.
So far I am really enjoying the PicJoy app. It’s helped me a lot and has enabled me to pull up and share photos of my lovely daughter from prom and graduation with family and friends without wasting their time (and mine) scrolling through hundreds of photos to find the ones I want to share.
Best of all it’s a FREE app. Look for it on iTunes or in the app store.

What do you think about the PicJoy app? Does it sound like an app you can really use to organize the dozens (or hundreds) of digital photos that you have?
