Learn a new language quickly and easily with Drops and Droplets

How many languages do you speak? Personally, I can only fluently speak one language – English. I do know some Spanish, French and Italian, but only a few words and phrases.

Growing up, we had to take a language when we got into 7th grade, and we had to take at least two years of a foreign language in order to graduate. I took French, although I should have taken Spanish. Where I currently live we have a high Spanish speaking population, and I wish I had taken Spanish so I could communicate with people better.

After two years of French the only thing I retained was what we learned the very first day in class (I’m lucky if I remember what I had for breakfast this morning), and the numbers 1-10. That’s it!

Back when I was in my early 20’s I worked for AT&T as a long distance/international telephone operator (are there still operators?). We handled New York City and other areas of New York. As a result, we have a lot of foreign speaking customers. There was a special call center to handle non-English speaking customers, but the trick was to know what language they were speaking in order to figure out which foreign language speaking operator to transfer the call to.

I took it upon myself to learn different language. Back then all we had were books and cassette tapes. I took out books and tapes to teach myself how to say phrases that pertained to my job in Italian, Mandarin, Cantonese, Arabic, Japanese and several other languages. I was so good at it that I impressed my managers and they promoted me to the in-charge person. I was 19 when I was promoted to that position (that made the long time employees not happy with me).

Sadly, a foreign language is a “use it or lose” it sort of thing. If you don’t use it frequently you forget it. That is what happened to me. I still know a few things in Italian, and how to count a little in Japanese, but that is about it.

Learning another language is not that easy. They say the best time to learn is when you are a child because you retain more of what you are taught. I wish I had known that when my kids were little, because I would have found a way to teach them another language when they were in elementary school, instead of junior high. My daughter to many years of Italian (7th – 11th grades). She graduated in 2015. Ask her to say something in Italian and she can’t remember any of it. Had she been taught in elementary school, she would have retained a lot of what she was taught.

I can always try and teach myself a new language, but I find it hard to read a book and learn. I’m more of a tactile/visual learner, which means I learn better by doing and seeing things.

There is a set of apps that can help you and/or your child learn a new language that is fun and easy. It’s called Drops (Droplets is the child version). They are both apps that are available in your app store.

I’ll focus more on Drops, but let it be known that Droplets is just the kid friendly, parent approved, version of the same app.

Drops is more than just a language app. It’s an interactive language app which helps you to learn words and phrases easily and in a fun way.

The app lets you learn so many different languages. You can choose one, or eventually learn all of them. It’s totally up to you.

Aside from the traditional languages that many people try to learn (Spanish, French, Italian, German), Drops also has Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), Danish, Dutch, Finnish, Hebrew, Hindi, Greek, Korean, Icelandic, Polish, Russian, and Turkish. They also have other lesser known languages like Tagaloc, Samoan, Maori, Estonian and Ainu. There are other languages not listed here. Droplets has the same available languages, so parents and children can learn them at the same time. For example, if you are planning a trip to France in the fall, both you and your child can use the Drops/Droplets apps to learn some French words and phrases.

Drops has a fun way of teaching you a new word/phrase. Take for example I want to learn Italian. The app starts off with something simple – Food.

Drops will say the word in the language you are learning, along with a drawing. I would recommend that you say the word along with the app so that you can learn it better.

Next, the app might show you two different drawings and a word in that language. You need to swipe the word towards whatever drawing you think represents the word.

Another option the app might give you is one of the words you just learned, but with the letters scrambled. It’s up to you to place the letters in the correct order to spell the word represented by the picture on your screen.

The app might also show you a drawing with two different words (in the language you are learning). It’s up to you to choose the correct word to match the drawing.

You might also get a screen with a drawing and and a bunch of random letters. It’s up to you to swipe through the letters to spell the word.

I know some of this might sound confusing, but it’s not. The app is super easy to use and to navigate.

You can download the app for free, but if you want to unlock all the “bells and whistles,” I would recommend purchasing the app.

If you use the free option you can learn any language you want. The downside is that you are timed on the app and only have a limited time to use it each day. But that is OK. You can still use the app every day. If you are like me, you’ll want to use it past the limited time (with the paid option you have unlimited time to use it each day). To be totally honest with you, I enjoy using this app so much that I find myself using it for 30-60 minutes at a time. You can easily get “lost” playing the app because it’s so enjoyable to use.

The app does keep track of how you are doing. It will let you know what words you got right and so forth. This will help you see your progress.

I have tried a few languages on both Drops and Droplets (I have both). Some languages are easier to learn than others. It’s not the apps fault. It’s just that some languages, like Spanish, is easier to learn than Mandarin. It’s because the words are a bit more difficult to pronounce. Some languages show how the word is written in their language, and reading Arabic (for example) is not as easy as French.

The languages appear to be spoken by native speakers too, so you can hear how the word is suppose to sound when spoken.

Overall I think Drops and Droplets are amazing apps. They are super easy to use and I personally have learned a lot. I have tried several languages and I’ve learned a lot. Right now I have resorted to only study one language at a time. I am currently using Drops to learn Spanish since I live and work in an area with a large Spanish speaking community.

I have tried several language learning apps, and I find that Drops and Droplets are by far the best one I have used.

If you are interested in learning more, visit LanguageDrops.com. You can also follow Drops on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Their official hashtag is #LearnwithDrops.

Are you, or your child, interested in learning a new language?

Tuck-In Your Child with One-of-a-Kind “Goodnight Babies” Video App

Our lives can be so hectic when raising babies and little children.  From the morning routine of getting the kids up and out the door, working or running errands, to getting the kids to sleep on time and then doing it all over again.  With so many time constraints to your daily schedule, you are not able to see your family and friends as often as you wish. A mom who felt this way was talking about how her 2-year-old son rarely sees his aunts or grandparents.  The mom lives only a few miles away from her relatives, but finding the time to see them was getting harder and harder.  The mom wanted to Facetime with the family to bond with her baby but certain family members had Android phones which does not have the Facetime feature. At other times a connection would fail or people were just unavailable.   For her, the baby having interaction with family members was important.  The mother wanted her child to feel connected to family members.

After searching around, she found an app that can help her.  The app is called GOODNIGHT BABIES.

GOODNIGHT BABIES is a 5-star mobile app ideal for newborns and children up to four years of age. GoodNight Babies has a simple interface that is available on both the iPhones and Android mobile phones.  The app allows you to invite guests from your phone to video record and send a special GoodNight message to your child. You then select the order of the greetings, pick a GoodNight melody, and choose the design border. The GoodNight Babies app will do the rest.  The app will automatically compile all of the messages into a video storybook personalized for your little one. Once completed, the video storybook begins to play.  Your child can cherish the video storybook night after night.

The app was not created by a big company with motive. It was created by a family and was built of sincerity. Their desire to have family members and friends’ bond with their child thru sight and sound at any time evolved into the need to create GoodNight Babies.

The GoodNight Babies app has been receiving honorable praises from Users.  One comment from a user caught my eye and thought it was so profound.

“Love love love it!! Science has proven that the last person you have contact with before sleep will be the person you dream about . so it’s comforting for a child to see familiar faces before bed . Perfection!”

The app is user friendly.  Everything about the process and features are so simple. It was built for everyone.

This brief video gives you a little insight to the app.  It’s really magical.

A parent downloads the GoodNight Babies app.

The parent fills in a simple profile, personalizing the experience for the child and the app then creates the DASHBOARD.

From the DASHBOARD, you can send INVITATIONS to all your Family and Friends that you have in your contacts.

The invitations are sent via Text Message directly from your phone to your guest.

The invitation process is actually original and innovative.  They designed the invitation to go directly from your mobile device to the person you are inviting as a text message.  Your “GUEST” receives a link from you the HOST and then clicks the link to open the invite.  Once opened, the GUEST is able to record their message. When satisfied with their message, the message is then sent back to the HOST.  The Guest doesn’t have to downloaded the app or sign up for anything. The process is streamlined and private.  Very user friendly. The whole invitation process can literally can take seconds.

Incredibly, the GOODNIGHT BABIES app allows the HOST to cross platforms to invite.  A person with an iPhone cannot Facetime a person with an Android phone or vice versa.  But the creators of the GOODNIGHT BABIES app eliminated this problem.  The app allows the USER to cross platforms.  Meaning, an iPhone user can Invite an Android user or vice versa, eliminating a problem that has plagued mobile phone users for a very long time. Finally, we are not bound to restrictions that have caused different mobile phones users to miss precious moments.

Plus, you can invite anyone from your contacts. As long as you can text someone, no matter where in the world they are, a HOST can invite them to partake to a GoodNight greeting.

After all the GoodNight messages are received by you the HOST, you then arrange the order you would like the GoodNight messages to appear, choose a boarder, pick your GoodNight music and you are all set. The GOODNIGHT BABIES APP then automatically combines all the precious video GoodNight messages with storybook animation and all the other elements, creating a magical GoodNight video story book that you and your child can cherish night after night.

Once complete, The GoodNight Babies app transforms into a Video GoodNight Book.

With the information provided on the Profile, the experience is personalized for your child.

The child’s name appears on the cover of the book, instantly making the child feel special.

As the page turns, your child is greeted by the Family member or Friend you allotted in the first position. On the right side of the page, the video is played.  The video is surrounded by the boarder you picked earlier.  On the left side of the page, the name of the person who is saying the GoodNight message is automatically populated.

The creators really spent time making the experience special.  The details on the story pages are beautiful. The design on a whole resembles on old time fable book. They really captured the essence of the storybook. The pages turn automatically, which is very nice because you don’t have to interrupt the experience by pressing a “turn the page” button.

The book continues to turn and play automatically, until the last person has said their GoodNight wish. As the book closes, the photo used in the PROFILE PICTURE is automatically populated on the back cover of the book for the child to see.

Overall, this app is innovative and thoughtful.  It has created a beautiful, one of a kind, bedtime experience for the child. There isn’t anything on the market like this.    The Creators of the GOODNIGHT BABIES developed an experience like a movie.  The app truly brings people together.

Its free and private. GoodNight Babies is designed to protect your child’s privacy. Only the parent can invite people to send GoodNight messages, and only the parent can decide which messages to include in the personalized storybook.

The GoodNight Babies App. Created by a family for families.

Created by parents, the Goodnight Babies app is a labor of love,” said the creator. “

“We hope by sharing the GoodNight Babies app with the world, your child can also delight in the magic of the GoodNight Babies app.  The joy our child expresses while watching goodnight messages from our family and friends is priceless.”

Check out Mindcurrent – the new wellness app for busy parents

Years ago, when my kids were little, I barely had time to breathe, let alone do anything else. Ok… I’m exaggerating a bit, but most parents can relate to what I mean.

My kids are young adults now, but I still need to parent them (to some degree) and they still keep me busy. Case in point, our daughter just had her debit card stolen, and now we have to pay her bills until she gets a new card. Ugh!

Being a parent always keeps you on your toes, no matter what the ages of your children are.

But it’s not just children. Your job, your home, and a variety of other factors take time away from “you time.”

Sometimes I NEED a few minutes to myself, to “decompress” and gather my thoughts. I know many people feel the same way.

Life throws a lot at us. Parenting, work commitments, family problems… it can all make you feel like you are being pulled in a million different directions. As a result, we are often stressed, and have feelings such as anxiety, frustration, sadness, or just completely worn out.

What if there was a way to redirect your negative energy into more positive energy? Well, now there is an app that can help with that called Mindcurrent. It helps you relieve stress, create clear, focused thinking, and regain your sense of control. After using it for just a few minutes, you will find you can reduce your stress, anxiety, anger, and frustration.

The app is free and you can download it at mindcurrent.io/iphone (iPhone) or mindcurrent.io/android (Android).

Here is a little more information about the app.

With personalized recommendations from the world’s leading psychologists, Mindcurrent helps you visualize your emotional and behavioral patterns, so you can make better choices every day.

To improve recommendations, you can optionally allow the app to access heart rate and activity data from the Health app in order to obtain a more comprehensive view of how daily activity affects your emotions.

Use Mindcurrent to:
– Build self awareness, focus, and a calming sense of control for a happier, healthier mind.
– Reduce stress, anxiety, anger, and frustration by eliminating unwanted influences.
– Visualize your emotional and behavioral patterns to build healthy mental habits for greater success and stronger relationships.

Built by leading psychologists, data scientists, and behavioral artists, Mindcurrent helps you feel better with complete privacy. Your information is protected, encrypted, and will always be yours because Mindcurrent does not sell, share, or own your data. The more you put in, the better you’ll feel, and the more personalized your recommendations will be.

I downloaded it to give it a try. Mindcurrent does not require you to provide them with any personal information when you sign up. It just asks for your name, email and phone number. The app will also ask you about what kind of recommendations you want (stress, parenting, relationships…). You can select them all, or just the ones you feel you want to focus on the most. I checked them all except relationships. I have a great relationship with my husband and with others (family, friends, co-workers). I didn’t think I needed help in that area. But I can always change these options later if I want to.

Once you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll come to a screen with a colorful circle. Around the circle you’ll see keywords like Stressed, Excited, Anxious, Happy, Focused, Relaxed, Tired, and Sad. Using your finger, tap anywhere in that circle that pinpoints how you are feeling at that moment. Based on what you select, Mindcurrent will personalize recommendations for you based on where your energy is at that moment.

Next, Mindcurrent will offer you a selection of brief videos. They typically range from 1-3 minutes, but there are a few that can last up to 8 minutes (based on the ones that were suggested for me).

Some of the videos feature leading psychologists who provide advice or insights about your overall wellness and simple things you can do to reduce your negative energy or fatigue.

Some of the video topics I have found (and used) include;

  • Learn Happiness
  • Focus Infusion
  • Power Breath
  • Successful Day
  • Life a Coworker
  • Confidence Infusion

Most of the videos feature the psychologist. You can watch the psychologist, or you can remove their video and just listen to them, especially if you don’t want other people to see what you’re watching.

Click on the “eye” icon (the one to the left with the slash through it) to remove the psychologist’s image and just listen to the content.

Sometimes the psychologist will ask you a question, and a box will pop up for you to write down what is on your mind (like a journal entry). The psychologist does NOT see your answers/response. None of this is live. These are pre-recorded videos. What you write down is only seen by YOU and ONLY YOU. That way you can be as brutally honest about how you are feeling without anyone else knowing.

I like that the videos are brief. I sit down in a quiet room so that I can fully focus on what they psychologists is asking me to do (focusing, breathing exercises, writing things down in the app’s journal…).

I really enjoy the videos in this app, and I am looking forward to them adding more.

Select the areas you want to focus on in your life.

I feel relaxed and more focused after I spend a few minutes in the app. I have so much going on right now that I NEED these moments to myself. To gather my thoughts and get myself on track to get things done.

I appreciate the breathing techniques often suggested, as well as other tips. For example, in the Mindful Eating video the psychologist suggests turning off the television and putting down your phone while eating. He also suggests putting down the fork/spoon in between bites and focusing on what you are eating, so you are being more mindful of it. These are great tips! Most people shove food in their mouths without even realizing what they ate. Being more mindful of how you are eating and what you are eating could help you to make healthier choices, and enjoy the simple act of eating.

Sometimes the app asks you to answer questions. The answers appear in your app’s journal.

The Mindcurrent journal records your answers to the various questions. You are also welcome to write entries anytime you want.

This is not something you can listen to in the car (unless someone else is driving). You want to be someplace quiet where you can focus on the recommendations being presented to you. For example, you can listen to this at your desk at work with headphones, or at home, or right before bed, or any other time and place when it might help.

The app keeps track of your energy levels in an “Energy Report”, so you can see what areas you need help with the most. Along with your energy and thoughts, Mindcurrent also lets you capture what things (or people) are influencing you, so you can see these patterns and learn more about yourself. Just thinking about what was influencing me helped me realize what was affecting my mood at certain times. It’s really quite insightful.

So far, I am really enjoying this app, and I have tried many of the suggestions from the videos, so I am learning some great techniques as well.

The app currently has a 5-star rating in the Apple app store. One of the reviewers commented on how Mindcurrent is a better way to start your day than mindlessly scrolling through Facebook. I completely agree.

If you are interested in learning more about the Mindcurrent app, or if you would like to download it to try it out for yourself, visit mindcurrent.io/iphone (iPhone) or mindcurrent.io/android (Android).

You can also visit the official website, www.mindcurrent.io. In addition, you can check out the app on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Is this an app you would try? Why or why not?

Feel free to comment and share your thoughts.

*I have partnered with Mindcurrent to bring you this information. Although compensated, the opinions expressed are entirely my own and not influenced in any way. All app images are from my own personal phone and app account.

Relax and Refocus with the new BrainTap Pro app

Life is stressful. There are bills to pay, commuting to/from work, keeping your home clean, worrying about what your kids are up to… the list goes on an on.

Some people deal with stress a lot better than others. Take my husband for example. He can sleep through anything. Me, on the other hand, will LOSE sleep over the simplest things. It’s not uncommon to find me wide awake in the middle of the night.

Part of my problem is that I have a hard time turning my mind off. Even my physician told me that. For that reason he prescribed a medication to help me sleep (aka – turn my mind off). The problem is that I hate taking that medication. Not only does it make me feel groggy the next morning, but it also bothers my eyes if I take it more than a few days at a time. For that reason I only take it when absolutely necessary.

I also have a hard time focusing at times. My husband keeps joking that I need to take a product called “Focus Factor.”

This is a (made up) example of how my mind works sometimes.

“I need to dust the living room. I need to buy new batteries for my flameless candles in the living room. What else do I need batteries for? What else do I need from the store? Do I need anything for dinner from the store? I want to try that new recipe for dinner. Where did I put that recipe book? I need to buy that book off Amazon I want to review. I have review posts to write. I need to reply to emails…”

You get the idea. My mind tends to “wander” and I lose track of what I was initially suppose to do.

I’m not one to want to use medications or other ingestibles to help me relax or focus. I take enough medication as it is.

I was recently told about the BrainTap Pro app that can help you relax, unwind and refocus. Sign me up! I NEED something like that in my life.

I was sent an access code to try BrainTap Pro out for myself.

Here is a little background information about the BrainTap Pro app.

The BrainTap Pro mobile app is a quick and easy way to relax, reboot and revitalize – anytime, anywhere. Backed by neuroscience and research, “braintapping” is proven to help people who struggle with stress, difficulty sleeping, low energy, and other lifestyle challenges. The BrainTap Pro mobile app is a mind-development tool designed to help users de-stress while achieving physical, mental, and emotional balance.

BrainTap Pro is an all-natural, drug-free solution that guides your mind from awake and reactionary to an intuitive, creative state where super-learning and healing can occur. Using frequency-following technology as well as guided visualization, the app gives anyone the ability to achieve the mental state they want in mere minutes (unlike traditional meditation which can take years to master.)

While other apps only focus on one brainwave (such as alpha waves that calm and soothe) BrainTap Pro is based on the understanding that no complex human task has only one brainwave state but rather a symphony of waves working together.

Unlike other methods where users have to listen and follow instructions, such as “breath in, breath out,” the BrainTap Pro audio does the meditation for you. You can even fall asleep while using the app, and still reap the benefits.

BrainTap Pro’s exclusive neuro-algorithms gently and naturally guide your brain through a broad range of brainwave patterns. The results in a complete spectrum of brainwave activity, meaning the brain is now optimized for peak performance.

The BrainTap Pro mobile app takes the user through specially designed programs and offers bundles of sessions customized to specific goals, whether it is to kickstart your productivity in the morning, alleviate stress after work, unwind before bed, or to recharge and focus midday.

First and foremost, while it is true that you can use this app anytime, anywhere, it’s NOT meant for when you are driving. I initially thought I could use this on my commute to/from work. This app is meant to be used when you can close your eyes, relax and listen to it. Fortunately for me, I don’t leave for work until the afternoon. My husband and kids are usually at work/school during the day, so I have the place to myself. This allows me to have no outside distractions (except for the neighbor’s annoying barking dog), so I can fully immerse myself into the app.

When you first log on to the app, you’ll come to the main page. There you can access your BrainTap “bundles,” your favorite BrainTap Pro sessions, downloads and more.

BrainTap Pro is divided into different “bundles” that focus on one specific area of your life. There are bundles to help you sleep, bundles to help you life mindfully,  bundles to help you wake up and get ready to start your day, a weight loss bundle and even BrainTap Pro bundles geared towards kids.

Most bundles have a lot of sessions. The bundle for kids currently has 53 sessions. weight loss currently has 55 sessions and sleep currently has 29 sessions. I’m sure the makers of BrainTap Pro are going to continually add more sessions to this app over time.

Each BrainTap Pro session lasts for quite a while. These are not quick sessions. These were designed to really immerse yourself into each session. I’ve seen sessions last from as little as 8 minutes, and as long as an hour. Most seem to be in the 15-30 minute range. I’m sure EVERYONE has at least 15-30 minutes to devote to themselves. Even if it means doing a session during your lunch break at work, or while your child is napping.

Using BrainTap Pro is easy. Simply pick the session you want, sit back, close your eyes and relax. BrainTap Pro does most of the “mental work” for you.

Bundle examples (there are more to choose from that what is seen here).

There is a brief description for each session, so you can choose which one is best for what you need it for.

I forgot to add that you need to download the sessions that you want. That is no big deal. It just helps you to locate the sessions you used in the “download” session.

The sessions remind me of being hypnotized. A soothing voice talks to you and tells your mind what it should be doing and makes you aware of things. While this is happening, gentle music (and sometimes nature sounds) plays in the background.

There are a few sessions that I came across that have someone talking underneath what the main person is talking about (if that makes sense?). As if there is someone else talking in the background. I’m assuming that serves some kind of neuro-function.

My husband was not too keen on that idea (he tried it out a few times). He JOKINGLY said “How do you know the background voice is not telling you to rob a bank?” I HIGHLY doubt that is the case at all. Since using the app I have not had any weird or unexplained feelings or ideas.

Examples of sessions found under each bundle.

I mostly use the app to help me relax, de-stress, and to help me sleep. I’ve dabbled in the other areas (like weight loss) but i haven’t really noticed much as far as that is concerned (the weight loss aspect).

I find the app VERY soothing and relaxing. I liken it to taking a nap while you are fully awake. I find that after the session is over I feel like I took a nap and feel more prepared to tackle my day.

As someone who struggles with insomnia (because I can’t turn my brain off), I have found this app to be VERY helpful. It actually does help me to take my mind off things and not to let my mind wonder, so I am better able to relax and fall asleep. The app has been very helpful in helping me to get much needed sleep.

There is so much available content on this app that it would take a very long time (weeks, months even) to go through each one if you did one session each day.

Overall I am truly enjoy this app. I find myself looking forward to that “me time” to sit, close my eyes, and enjoy a BrainTap Pro session.

A brief description of each session is available so you can pick and choose the right ones for you.

BrainTap Pro is a subscription service app. It costs $9.99 per month per bundle (NOT per session). The subscription allows you to use the app/bundles on two devices, with up to 5 plays per day per device. That might seem like a lot, but when you consider what most people pay per month for streaming services like Netflix or Hulu, or how much money they spend at the local coffee shop, this price isn’t all that bad (I spend about $12-$15 per WEEK just buying coffee from the local coffee shop).

If you are interested in learning more, visit BrainTapTech.com. The brand can also be found on social media. All of their links are found on the bottom right of their website.

What do you think about BrainTap Pro? Does it sound like something you need in your life?

Making learning FUN with Wonster Words

Most children across the country are going to enjoy two things this week – Christmas and a holiday break from school. Some people, like me, will also be enjoying a long, holiday break (I work in a school).

Just because there is no school this week, it doesn’t mean that all learning needs to stop. I’m not suggesting that you keep on your kids about studying and other school work. Kids do need a break from that stuff from time to time. However, there is a way to make learning fun. So much so, kids won’t even realize that they are learning.

There is an app from 77Sparx called Wonster Words. It’s an award-winning game including Parent’s Choice, Children’s Technology Review Editor’s Choice and National Parenting Product Award. The game was inspired by Sesame Street.

This brief video gives you a little insight to the game. It’s really cute.

Learning to recognize letters is important in order to spell. A child also needs to know what letters sounds like, but individually as well as grouped together such as consonant blends.

With Wonster Words children will learn their ABC’s, phonics and spelling.

There are hundreds of words, 12 word families and 12 original stories currently available on Wonster Words. New content is added frequently.

Once you download the app you’ll discover the all new Wonster Island. Each part of the island allows children to do different fun things. Each section is as educational as it is enjoyable. They help children to explore and learn about word families, phonemes, digraphs and more.

There are different sections to the island – Phonics, Stories, Math, Science, Art and Music.

Within each section there are stories and sections that cover popular children’s themes including: birthdays, friendships, nature, space, animals and more.

Wonster Words encourages exploration and engagement without scoring, quizzing, limits, or stress. Let’s face it, kids have enough stress at school as it is. They certainly don’t need it when they are trying to have fun.

In the phonics section children will learn about letter blends such as “op, at, ap, ut and ph,” to name a few. I’ll use “ph” as an example.

Under the “ph” section, children will learn different words such as elephant, phony, photo, morph and phantom (there are more words, I’ve only selected a few).

Using the word “morph” as an example, children will first need to “grab” the letters with their fingers and place them in the appropriate spot. As the letters are touched and placed in the correct spot, the game will say the letter and make it’s sound. Once the word is spelled out, the game will pronounce the the letters and then the final word.

Catch the letters as the pop out of the colorful tubes, then place them in the appropriate spot.

Cute little animated characters act out “morphing” as well as define what it means to morph.

Each word is reinforced with a fun little animation that not only utilizes the word, but also provides a definition of the word.

The spelling section is similar, except that it doesn’t focus on the sound blends the same as as the phonics section does.

In this section children need to complete a series of words that follow the same theme. As children complete the different “challenges,” they earn little virtual rewards.

The other three sections – Math, Science, Art and Music – are a collection of interactive puzzles and games. If you read my review of Puzzlingo, this section is similar to that. Children need to put the puzzle pieces in the correct spot. Once they have accomplished this they get to see adorable animations as well as play fun games – all of which reinforces what they are learning.

Here are some new Wonster Words features that are new this holiday season.

  • The introduction of the interactive Wonster Island (as mentioned above)
  • New educational biomes that cover Phonices, Stories (spelling), Math, Science, Art & Music

Wonster Words is geared for children ages 3-6.

I’m an adult and I think the games are fun to play. I especially love the darling little characters.

Math puzzle game.

Once a child has completed the math puzzle they get to play a game related to it. In this game your child needs to “toss” the ball to try and knock over the various items on the shelves.

There is so much to do with Wonster Words. It will keep your child (or grandchild) entertained for hours (which is great if you are traveling this holiday season). Plus, 77Sparx is constantly adding to this game/app, so there will always be something fun to play.

You can download Wonster Words on iTunes, Google Play and on Amazon.

Wonster Words is free and there are some in-app purchases available.

What do you think about Wonster Words? Does it look like a game your child would love to play? Feel free to comment and share your thoughts. I always love to hear from reader.

Cute little characters and silly animations.

Let Movies Anywhere Make the Holidays Easier

I love the holiday season for so many reasons. One of my favorite things about the holidays is all the holiday movies and specials.

We make sure to catch our favorites every holiday season. Movies like Elf, A Christmas Story, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Polar Express, Miracle on 34th Street, It’s a Wonderful Life and Jingle All the Way (to name a few) are holiday staples with my family. We look forward to watching them year after year. They are just as much a part of our holidays as decorating the Christmas tree and putting up our decorations.

Growing up, my dad wasn’t really into Christmas like the rest of us. He grew up in an orphanage (until he was 18 and went into the Navy). His Christmas memories weren’t the best. I think that is why he was never really into watching holiday movies on television.

We only had one television when I was little. It was a struggle to get my dad to let me watch Charlie Brown Christmas or Dr. Seuss How the Grinch Stole Christmas. He wasn’t into Christmas, and he didn’t want to give up watching whatever he wanted for a half hour or so. He would always give in (he wasn’t mean or a “monster”), but I knew his heart wasn’t into watching it.

I never saw Miracle on 34th Street or It’s a Wonderful Life until I got married. I honestly don’t know why.  These days I also make sure to watch them whenever they come on.

My kids are fortunate that my husband and I love the Christmas movies just as much as they do (if not more). They grew up watching all of them. In fact, the ONLY movie our son likes is Polar Express. I’m not exaggerating either. He’s never really been into movies or television, but he does like that film. He will watch it every time it airs on TV. He said he’d watch it year-round if it was more accessible to him. He said he’s too lazy to dig through our massive movie collection to find the movie, pop it in the Blu-ray player, and watch it.

A Christmas Story is a Christmas Eve/Christmas Day tradition. One of the TV channels plays it for 24 hours. We always make sure to watch the first showing and the last showing (but we usually watch it a few times in between).

My husband has a new job this holiday season, and during downtime he’s allowed to watch TV in the break room or movies. The problem with that is that he has to bring our old, heavy laptop to work with him, as well as the DVDs he wants to watch (our laptop doesn’t play Blu-rays). It’s a big of an inconvenience to do that, which is why he doesn’t do that.

Are you familiar with the platform Movies Anywhere? Movies Anywhere allows you to search and redeem movie codes from major studios such as Walt Disney Studios, Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Sony Pictures. It’s a platform that syncs all of your previously purchased codes from other major retailers such as iTunes, Vudu, Amazon Prime Video, Google Play, Microsoft Movies & TV and FandangoNow. Many Blu-ray films often come with a digital code. It’s that digital code that you can use in Movies Anywhere to have access to the movie anytime and anywhere.”

Movies Anywhere makes it easy for you to have all your films in one spot, rather than have to visit a variety of websites to find the movie you want to view.

If you have already redeemed codes and have movies on the other platforms (mentioned above) you can have all your films (from the above-mentioned studios) merged into your Movies Anywhere account. That way you have all of your movies in one spot and easily accessible.

You can also purchase movies directly from Movies Anywhere.

Movies Anywhere also has a handy app that you can download, giving you the power to watch your purchased film anywhere you want (which is why its appropriately named Movies ANYWHERE).

You can also redeem movie codes on the app. Redeeming a code is super easy. Simply locate the code inside the movie you purchased, enter it on the redemption screen on the app and enter. Within about 10 minutes (give or take) the movie will show up in your account and you can start watching it.

I’ve merged all of my purchased movies from the various studios that Movies Anywhere works with (Walt Disney Studios, Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., and Sony Pictures), so now they are all in one place (both on the app and online at MoviesAnywhere.com).

I’m impressed that Movies Anywhere was able to grab ALL my movies, even ones that I purchased 5+ years ago.

My most favorite thing about the Movies Anywhere app is that I can literally watch my movies anywhere… at work, while I’m traveling, in a room that doesn’t have a television set… you get the idea. You can watch off your smartphone, tablet or computer.

With Movies Anywhere you can download your movies to take with you on the go. With so many families traveling this holiday season, it’s great to know that you have an option to keep kids entertained. As a mom I know how important that is. It takes away the fun of visiting far away family and friends when you have to listen to your child repeatedly say “Are we there yet?” and “I’m bored.” They won’t utter those words if they are able to watch their favorite movie/movies on the Movies Anywhere app. You can load your iPad with a plethora of their favorite films to keep them entertained for hours. This is also great to have it you are staying at a hotel (hotels don’t often offer the best channels).

The app allows you to have one base account and then you can add profiles for your family, including rating restrictions for content access. The rating restrictions is a very handy feature to have, especially if you don’t want your child to get access to R rated films, or PG-13 films that are too inappropriate for little ones. Take for example Deadpool 2. I have that on my Movies Anywhere account. I would be mortified if my young child watched that film. It’s VERY inappropriate for little ones (a lot of curse words and sexual innuendos).

Movies Anywhere is also great when your little one is obsessed with a certain movie and wants to watch it over and over and over again. You can let them watch the film on the app while you get to enjoy what you want to watch on your television. It also allows you to watch YOUR favorite films whenever you want. You can also play your favorite holiday films via Movies Anywhere for your whole family to enjoy. Family Movie Nights are one of my family’s favorite things to do.

If you would like to learn more about Movies Anywhere visit MoviesAnywhere.com. You can find the app at the Apple store and on Google Play. Check out the hashtag #MASurvivingTheHoliday to see what others are saying about Movies Anywhere this holiday season.
