I love Chinese food. I wish it was easy to prepare most of the dishes at home. Our local Chinese take-out restaurant prepares and cooks the food right in plain sight. I love to stand there and watch them. They make it look so easy! But I know if I tried to mimic the recipes at home I would fail miserably.
I do keep several ingredients that are commonly used in Chinese cooking in my pantry such as Soy Sauce, Sweet and Sour Sauce, Teriyaki and Yoshida Sauce. Every now and then I’ll grab one of them and add them to whatever I’m cooking for dinner (usually with chicken).
I love chicken with orange sauce. I get that every now and then from the Chinese restaurant we go to on occasion (not the Chinese take out restaurant). I find that orange sauce adds a bit of a “kick” to the recipe. Sometimes it’s too spicy for my tastes, other times I’d perfect. Applebees has an orange chicken bowl dinner that I LOVE, but sometimes it’s too spicy.
Now I can make orange chicken at home – and it’s easy to do too! All I need is a bottle of San-J Orange Sauce. You can marinade with it, use it as a glaze or even as a dipping sauce.
Here is a recipe for Grilled Orange Chicken using the San-J Orange Sauce. I’ll also give you my own super quick and easy recipe for Orange Chicken too!
Grilled Orange Chicken
Created by: By Carol Kicinski
Ingredients:
6 boneless, skinless chicken thighs
½ cup San-J Orange Sauce
½ cup honey
2 teaspoons sesame seeds
Directions:
Cut chicken into 1½ inch pieces. Combine the San-J Orange Sauce and honey and put half in a medium mixing bowl, reserve the rest for later. Add the chicken pieces to the bowl and toss to combine. Let chicken marinate for
20 minutes at room temperature or for up to 4 hours in the refrigerator.
(If marinating in the refrigerator, let come to room temperature for 20 minutes before grilling.) If using wooden skewers, soak 4 in water for 20 minutes. Pre-heat the grill to moderately high heat (450°F on a gas grill).
Divide chicken pieces onto 4 skewers allowing the chicken to touch but do not cram the pieces together. Brush grates of grill with oil.
Grill for 4 minutes with the lid to barbecue closed. Turn skewers over and grill another 4 minutes covered. Brush the reserved sauce onto the chicken and cook for another 2 minutes, turning several times, or until the chicken is cooked through but still juicy. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve.
Makes 4 Servings.
Do you want to know my recipe for quick and easy Orange Chicken? Cook frozen pre-made chicken nuggets and use the San-J Orange Sauce as a dip. Or you can warm up a little San-J Orange Sauce in a pan and cook the chicken nuggets separately. When the nuggets are cooked put them in a bowl. Pour the warmed orange sauce on top and mix it around until the pieces are well coated and enjoy. I have prepared it this way and served it over rice. My kids loved it!
I haven’t had a chance to try it with shrimp yet but I’m drying to.
I like the San-J Orange Sauce because it tastes almost exactly like the orange sauce on my favorite dishes from the Chinese restaurant. It’s not too spicy either. And it’s so convenient! Simply open the bottle and pour out what you need. It can’t get any easier than that.
Here is another recipe that uses the San-J Orange Sauce. I would never think it use it with nuts.
