I have a very eclectic taste in music. I don’t like just ONE genre. I like all kinds of music. I can listen to Barry Manilow for one song then Metallica for the next. I might even follow that up with a song or two from the Bee Gees and then a few songs from Nickleback. Oddly enough the only type of music I’m not overly fond of is country or rap.
I have been in love with Opera since the first time I heard the Three Tenors concert back in 1994. I just find is so soothing and beautiful.
One Opera singer who has an amazing voice is Andrea Bocelli. When I found out he had a Christmas album out called My Christmas I just knew I had to hear it for myself.
Did you know that Andrea has been blind since he was 12 years old? He is also proficient in several instruments including the keyboard, trumpet, drums, saxophone and drums. He also graduated with a degree in law and spent a year as a lawyer.
My Christmas is a beautiful album. Andrea’s version of “White Christmas” (Bianco Natale in Italian) actually gave me CHILLS! He starts off the song in English then switches over to his native Italian. He ends the song in English again. WOW! It’s amazing. I knew that Andrea would do the song justice.
“Angels we have heard on high” starts off in Italian. This song brings back very special memories of Christmas Eve at church with my family. It was one of the hymns that our church sung during candlelight service. Even though the song is sung in Italian I can still follow along in my mind with the English words. Towards the middle of the song the background chorus sings the song in English followed by Andrea.
“Santa Claus is coming to town” was a bit different. There are children singing on this song. It’s pretty upbeat and Andrea sings the song entirely in English. He did a great job on a song that is not operatic.
Other favorite of mine from the My Christmas album include…
– Adeste Fidelis
– O Tannebaum – Sung in different language including English and a few other languages. One I believe is German. I’m not sure of the rest.
– Silent Night – Starts off in Italian, ends in English.
– Caro Gesu Bambino – Sung in Italian. I don’t recognize it as a classic Christmas tune, but it was still an amazing song.
There are other songs on the album as well.
Overall I truly enjoyed the album. Two songs (Jingle Bells & Blue Christmas) were just a little too slow for my taste, but over all Andrea did a wonderful job on the My Christmas album.
My Christmas by Andrea Bocelli is available now where ever music is sold. It’s also available for immediate download on iTunes and Amazon.
