Here is an interesting twist on a timeless classic. The Charles Dickens classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge has been made int a special edition with side notes on all the biblical references found within it’s pages.
Most people who celebrate Christmas know the tale of Scrooge. Three ghosts helped Scrooge to see his life a different way and how that turn his life around from a nasty old miser to a nicer, more caring person.
In this special edition of A Christmas Carol Stephen Skelton literally dissected the story and found interesting connections between the story and the bible or other religious ideas. Not only did Skelton find religious connections but he also includes some interesting facts and trivia that do not pertain to Christianity.
I found all the facts very interesting to read. At time I found myself reading the side notes FIRST then reading the story. Some pages were filled with too many facts which I actually found to be a bit distracting.
At the end of each chapter you’ll find a discussion section that you can either do as a family or perhaps even on your own. Each discussion section has a specific idea in mind. For example, Repentance, Regret and Salvation.
Each discussion section features questions pertaining to the story it’s self, questions pertaining to your personal life, questions that connect everything to Christmas and lastly Living the Story which tells you ways you can apply the things you learned to your own life.
I think this book would be ideal for a church’s youth group. It’s great for a family too but I really think that a church youth group would be the ideal situation for this book. I could picture everyone taking turns reading and then everyone working on the discussion section together.
Even if you are not into reading this for the religious information some of the other trivia is very interesting as well.
A Christmas Carol Special Edition by Stephen Skelton is available at many retail book locations including Barnes & Noble, ChristianBook.com and Amazon, just to name a few.
