There are a few foods that almost every child loves to eat on a regular basis – chicken nuggets, PB&J sandwiches and macaroni and cheese. I know they were staples in my kid’s diets for a long time. Now that they are teenagers they have included other favorite foods into the mix, but chicken nuggets, PB&J and mac and cheese will always be their favorites.
The first food I ever learned to make on my own was macaroni and cheese. The same goes for my son (my daughter’s first meal she made on her own was spaghetti for the family).
Growing up we used the mac and cheese that you needed to boil water for, cook the pasta, then add the powdered cheese and other ingredients to. These days making mac and cheese is as easy as pouring water in a cup and microwaving it for a few minutes. I certainly do enjoy the convenience of mac and cheese cups. In fact I have them for lunch and my kids often have them after school to hold them over until dinner time.
Annie’s, a company known for it’s natural and organic foods, has created a line of microwaveable mac and cheese cups that will not only be a hit with kids, but also something parents can feel good about letting their kids enjoy.
Annie’s new Microwavable Mac & Cheese Cups are made with REAL cheeses. That’s 100% real cheese from real cows. They also are made with NO artificial flavors, synthetic colors or preservatives. They also do not contain GMOs (genetically modified organism).
The new mac and cheese cups are available in three varieties;
- Real Aged Cheddar
- White Cheddar
- GLUTEN FREE Rice Pasta & Cheddar
I love that they have a Gluten free option. I know so many people are adopting the Gluten free lifestyle. I’ve been reading up on Gluten and I am really interested in seeing how it would help my son. I often wonder if something like Gluten might be at the root of some of his “issues”.
I have to admit that some times “better for you” foods taste a bit different than the foods we normally eat that are loaded with artificial this and that and ingredients you can’t even pronounce. My husband’s first question about better for you foods is “Does it taste like cardboard?”. LOL! Sometimes better for you doesn’t always equal tasty. In this case, it does!
I had the opportunity to try all three flavors. Well, I had the White Cheddar all to myself. My daughter had the Real Aged Cheddar and my son enjoyed the Gluten free Rice Pasta & Cheddar. I was pleasantly surprised at how good they tasted. They were nice and cheesy, jus the way we like it.
My kids never gave “better for you” a thought. They just saw it as mac and cheese and enjoyed it as an after school meal. I told them I needed to try a spoonful of each of the flavors for my review. Out of the three of them I liked the Real Aged Cheddar the best, but all three flavors were enjoyable.
The cups are just the right size. Not too much and not too little. My daughter paired hers with an apple. My growing son however kept grazing through the fridge for more food. It’s not that he wasn’t satisfied. He’s just a teenage boy and their only purpose in life at this point is to eat the parents out of house and home. LOL! How he manages to stay skinny I’ll never know.
Annie’s Mac and Cheese cups are great for lunch, after school, or a snack when you need a little something to hold you over to your next meal.

The Annies boxed macaronis are actually pretty good. I assumed that they wouldn’t be because they were organic, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Annies makes very good food items, and like the Mac and Cheese cups because they are easy to make and are organic which I like. Also Annies makes very delicious pizza. A store called the Grocery out let where I live had there pizzas and they were big for $2.99 each. The barbecue chicken pizza is so delicious! Annies makes great organic products.

Hooray for a gluten free version, and HOORAY for “better for you” foods out there in general. I have 6 kids. All of them have lived by the little blue box version for TOO long. Don’t get me wrong…they love it, BUT. I am one who believes if we have options that are better for our health, especially for a kids who will live in a world that is processed up and down…at least we can have healthier versions offered. I’m excited!

So much easier on us moms!!! My kids will only eat Annies!
