I might sound crazy saying this, but have you ever looked at something and wonder how it would taste, smell or feel if you could touch it? Take for example a cloud. I’ve always wondered if you could touch a cloud – I know you actually can’t touch one, but IF you could, what would it feel like? Soft and fluffy I imagine. Sort of like cotton candy.
When I was little I used to like to taste clover flowers (pictured above). I don’t even know how that got started, but I would pull the little pieces off the flower and eat them (they are sweet in case you were wondering – ha ha). These days when my “work kids” comment on how pretty the flowers are, and I tell them how they tasted, they think I’m crazy.
The brand Artistscent came about the same way. One day Natalie Kuhles was staring at a beautiful piece of artwork she had in the home she shares with her husband, John. Natalie spent over twenty years developing fragrances for a global company. While looking at the artwork she thought to herself “what would the artwork SMELL like from the artist’s perspective?” That is how Artistscent was born.
Artistscent combines the beauty of art with fragrance inspired by it.
Artistscent works with artists to create candles that not only smell amazing, but look amazing too.
Here are a couple examples from the brand’s website.
Maui – Coconut + Mango + Night Blooming Jasmine – by artist Elizabeth Karlson.

Along the Path – Pink Gardenias + Jasmine Petals + Oakmoss – by artist Ronnie Queenan

Each Artistscent candle is made with 10.5 ounces of wax with a cotton wick. It has a burn time of about 55 hours.
The artwork is permanently screened on to the glass. That means you can repurpose the glass once the candle is gone. I love this idea! You can repurpose the glass jars in so many ways.
Artistscent was kind enough to send me some of their candles to try out for myself. I received the following.
Evergreen Shore – Mountain Cyprus + Cedarwood + Fir Balsam – by artist Elizabeth Karlson.

YES! As soon as I saw the candle I thought about mountains and woods. The way the color swirls in the middle reminds me of mountains (like a mountain range). The dark and light greens (it’s hard to tell from my photo) remind me of a forest filled of fir trees and pine trees.
I absolutely LOVE the artwork. Green also happens to be my favorite color.
After I burn through this candle, I was thinking about using the glass on my desk to keep my pens in. I’m not sure yet.
The smell is amazing. It doesn’t smell like a Christmas tree, but it does have a woodsy scent to it. It’s a fresh and clean scent too.
When I take a sniff of this candle with my eyes closed, I think about camping with my cousins (that is the first thing that comes to mind). I haven’t been camping in about forty years! I also think about walking around one of the lakes in Bear Mountain State Park with my family on a cool spring day. The scent definitely evokes fond memories.
Artistscents ensures that your candle arrives in great condition. It’s packaged exceptionally well. I appreciate that. I would have been heartbroken if the candle was compromised in any way.
I also received to review the brand’s sample scent. This way I am able to try out all of their scents.
The “Sample Flight” set comes with mini metal tins of nine candles. Each candle lid features the same artwork you’ll find on the candle. I think that is a great idea. They are equally as pretty to look at as the candles are.
I appreciate being able to try out the different scents. The scents included in this set are;
- City Scape
- Along the Path
- Under Construction II
- Berry Crush
- Maui
- Soul Flame
- Evergreen Shore
- Dockside Morning
- Polynesian Waves
These candles are from artist Kathleen Karlson and Ronnie Queenan.
I love all the scents in the collection. They all have fresh, clean scents (so far none of them have bothered my husband with his migraines either, so that is a “plus”).
Dockside Morning is such a nice scent. It’s my favorite alone with Evergreen Shore. Dockside Morning is a great fall scent too. The scents are fresh coffee, vanilla bean and cinnamon buns. You would think it would have a “foodie” scent to it, but to me, it reminds me of fall, and that’s okay. Everyone interrupts scents their own way.
The sample set (Sample Flight) would be a great way for you to “try before you buy,” meaning, try out all the scents first, then order your favorites.
Candles always make great gifts, especially candles in beautifully designed vessels. The Sample Flight set would also make a great gift as it is (the nine pack) or you can separate them and give them along side other gifts (for example, attach one to the outside of a gift or tuck some in a stocking).
