I would consider myself a decent cook. Unfortunately my baking skills are not that great. Even when I follow directions to a “t” something always gets messed up. I tend to have more luck with actually baking the goodie then I do decorating it. I don’t know if it’s an actual “flaw” of mine, or it’s due to an incident that happened about twenty years ago.
Years ago (long before my I met my husband) some friends of mine were hosting a Christmas party. I offered to bring dessert. I had baked a sheet cake (two layers with cream in-between the layers). For the decoration I made a winter/holiday scene. I made a lake out of foil and decorated sugar ice cream cones as pine trees. I even went so far as to use icing to dress up Teddy Graham bears to look like they were dressed for the winter and ice skating on the lake.
It took me hours to decorate this cake. I put A LOT of heart into it.
When the cake was sitting out on the counter top at my friend’s house someone accidently knocked the florescent light bulb that hung over the sink. It dropped into the sink and shattered. There was glass and glass dust EVERYWHERE – including on top of my cake!
:-(!!!!
That was the last time I put that much heart into any cake I decorated. Now I leave the baking up my husband and my daughter.
I was sent to review a cake pan from a company called Silicone Zone. They sent me a lovely heart shaped silicon pan for Valentine’s Day. As soon as my daughter saw I she wanted to bake a cake right away.
The heart shaped silicon pan I received was the large size. The company does carry a smaller one.
Here is more information about the Silicone Zone Large Heart Cake Pan;
Made with Pure, FDA-Approved (a much higher grade of silicone that required by the FDA) silicone, the bake ware is manufactured and engineered to commercial and professional standards.
Oven, microwave and freeze safe, it can go from –58 F up to 675 F.
The high gloss, non-stick finish ensures a smooth, non-porous surface enhancing the non-stick properties without adding any additional coatings. However, we always recommend following the recipe’s directions for greasing or flouring.
Cooks and browns evenly; cools down quickly; easy to clean and dishwasher safe.
Can be folded for convenient storage and the flexibility makes removing baked goods easy (though not required, placing the cake pan on a cookie or baking sheet adds stability for the user to lift or transport the cake pan from oven).
SRP: $18.99
I’ve used silicone baking products in the past. I know they work great but I can’t help but think it will melt in the over.
I had my daughter spray some non-stick spray on the pan just to be on the safe side. I also had her put it on top of a cookie sheet to make it easier for her to take in and out of the oven.
My apologies for the horrible pictures. I don’t have a decent camera. I need to buy a new one (my beloved camera died).
My daughter was doing good putting the frosting on the cake. Unfortunately some of the cake started to come up into the frosting. I think that bothered her because my daughter likes to be “perfect”. I think she lost interest in frosting and decorating the cake because of it.
The cake baked up perfectly and kept its heart shape. I was concerned that the bottom of the heart might get stuck in the pan but it didn’t.
Clean up was a breeze.
I think the cake turned out pretty good, even though some of the cake started to get mixed in with the frosting. It tasted great too.
I have seen Santa faces made out of a heart shaped pan. I am going to try and make something like that during the holiday season. I also saw somewhere that someone had made a quiche using a heart shaped pan. I’m sure there are plenty of things I can make with this aside from cake.
Silicone Zone carries a lot of fun and unique silicone products. Not only do they have many cute baking shape (animals, Hello Kitty, letters & numbers), they also have other cool kitchen gadgets and utensils.

What do you think about this pan? What would you make with this heart shaped pan?
